Perioral dermatitis on 18months old?

Hi -

This rash started ~ 6 months ago with small spots  on baby's chin and some times on his eye.  Petiatrician said - don't worry, it will go away.  But it didn't .  So, we visited dermatologist.  He said - don't worry, just apply some cortison cream.  We did used cortison and it worked great!   ... but the rash is keep coming back again and again.  I started to be very concern.  My baby never had any allegry.  He doesn't scratch this rash at all.   I read a lot of articles about perioral dermatitis.  I came to pediatrician and ask his advice again.  For this time, pediatrician give us a prescription for antibiotic - eritromicin for 2 weeks +  eritromicin cream 2x a day.  Today is a 4th day.  Rash is not looking better. It looks worse!  I dont know what to think and what to do.  Maybe it's too early to make any assumption. Here is a picture ( was done yesterday):

Thanks,

Lida

Hi, I have that same problem I think. & also my 2 year old is getting it. It must be contageous..His looks just like that except its not made it to his chin yet. All of our dermatologist around here are booked until next year! So I cant get mine checked out to see if thats what it is. If his continues I will be taking him to his pediatrician. Has your childs went away yet taking the medicine? What creams can I use on him?

Could be something he is wiping on his eye does he rub his face and eyes, check out any shampoo or bath gel if you use it, any cream goes on his face, do you use a soap on him, also his food, does the rash come and go or is it there all the time. As you havent had any answers from your Doctor ,maybe it will just go when whatever cuased it runs its course.
