I too have smelly scalp, always thought it had something to do with PATM symptoms. Different shampoos/conditioners I would use would cause different reactions from different people. It is so befuddling.
Hi all, in case there are new people experiencing this issue (or the old commenters who hasn't found a solution), I've had the same shs/sss issue for years, probably over a decade and I'm in my mid 30's now. To add to the bag, my scalp is also more itchy in the winter, less itchy as the temperatures creep up but if it's summer and I'm sweating, you can bet that I'm fighting not to scratch my itchy scalp. No dandruff issues unless I'm scratching too vigorously. I have fine, thick, dark straight hair. This is important to know because, the littlest bit of oil and your hair noticeably goes flat and it looks pretty bad. The only time if I have volume in my hair is in a high humidity area.
I've scoured the internet for years until I just gave up a couple of years ago. Only yesterday did I go back and using my hyper focus skill, I finally stumbled upon a very plausible solution. I read that anti-bacterial Dial hand soap solved a commenters' issues. Wait... what?! Yes! So I googled anti-bacterial shampoo... which didn't exist. Only tea tree oil shampoo that has natural anti- bacterial/fungal/septic/viral properties but my, that's a bit pricey. Ok.. let's see... how about anti-bacterial body wash? Oh, ok, only Dial makes it? hmm. I really wanted to try it right NOW. OH, I have a LOT of Bath & Body Works soaps! Wait... didn't they remove all anti-bacterial related liquids from being sold about two years back??? F-!
Hold on... I have a hefty collection that goes back for several seasons. Desperate to find one so I could test out if I can finally de-funk my scalp, I tore my house upside down... and managed to finally find the ONE anti-bacterial labeled hand soap bottle out of the dozens upon dozens I've hoarded over the years. Excitedly, I went to shower and wash my hair using a pump sized amount and used a recently discovered Suave Professionals Deep Moisture Conditioner. It's so moisturizing that all I need is a dime size amount and it covers my waist length hair. Always start from the bottom up and don't condition the scalp! It's a north east winter here, and I haven't had those dry fly away hairs yet! Anyway, it's been about 24 hours since I last washed my hair and here's what's going on:
It's NOT smelly! I've been rubbing my fingers into my scalp and smelling them like a weirdo all day (at home) and there's no sour funk!
There is a bit less oil production - though I still wouldn't go out without washing my hair first
My scalp is MORE itchier now than it was - probably because the hand soap was so drying.
I'm really excited about this as I can't remember where at the end of the day, the smell of my hair did not offend me. Even though this is only the first day, it's a huge milestone. I highly recommend you try anti-bacterial products for your scalp. It seems like Dial and Equate (Walmart brand) are the only decently priced ones that produces a body wash - since the FDA says companies can no longer advertise as 'anti-bacterial' without backing that data up, Dial's slogan seems to run along the lines of 'washes away bacteria'. I wish they didn't have SLS as an ingredient as I recently stopped using shampoos with SLS.
now that u mention it Yes. I have had P.A.T.M symtomes for about 2 and a half years now. People sniffing around me, and I thought the sniffing was bad enough. I attributed the sniffing to some type of intestinal problem. But about a little over 3 months ago i smoked spice a few times about 5 times and a little after that I started to notice people coughing around me a lot. So that is one connection that may or may not have anything to do with it.
i would stop smoking weed since it actually promotes candida growth in your lungs by inhibiting the mucus in your lungs that fight bacterial infections.
Hello ladies and gents!! This forum has shocked me! I began reading about two nights ago when I was on my phone, I suddenly had the the whim to google people are allergic to me...(?) I am still stunnes by how many people have poseted and are sharing that they to suffer from this ****** up disease! I can almost remember the first day I started to catch on to there bieng a conection between me and people in my 10th grade class coughing around me. It was during a test, the californoa exit exam. I had smoked some herb that morning and was nervous taking the test...so I was breathing a bit harder and faster than normal. About 70 percent of my class mates were sniffling and clearing their throats, rubbing their eyes and coughing! And I don't mean tiny coughs! I mean those HUGE! Coughes that carry accross the room. I first thought it was me but over time I started to notice it more and more!. I've read that people have had mental breakdowns because of this overwheling feeling that they were hurting loved ones around them and not bieng able to take it LOL. I an honeslt say that it was ruining my 12 grade year but what I noticed was that it was mind over matter. I'm a smoker! Canabis since I was 9 years old and of cigaretts since 18. Just wondering does anyone else with patm has that in common? I defintly feel relived to know that there are other people out there that I'm able to share this with and understand. I've only told one perosn ever about this and its ture! They call you crazy!!! WTF...my doctor looked at me and said maybe its all iny your head. I thought about that for weeks on end!
I too suffer from smelly scalp and patm. I think you could be on to something with the sulfur shampoo. I'm thinking of trying a supplement for ph balance. Have you tried anything of the sort?
Hi!
I have seborrheic dermatitis and I use two shampoos (alternating them). One with tar and one with climbazole and zinc pyrithione. Maybe you should try them?
Also, while I took Ganatone and Omeprazole (for treating my GERD and LPR), I returned to normal condition of the skin on my face. But when I stopped taking them, redness and peeling have appeared again. Problems with the gastrointestinal tract is known can be manifested as skin diseases. Do you have problems with it, for example, GERD?
