ANY ONE HAVE SUCCESS WITH ONLY METFORMIN WITHOUT CLOMID

My ovaries are normal too. I do not have any cysts on them at all. I have been through over a dozen external and internal ultrasounds, and they always come back normal. My issue, is the weight. I hit my all time high point, and knew I had do do something about it. For allot of woman, if weight is the issue...normally losing whatever excess you gained throughout the years can restore your body to be normal again. I've never heard of Metformin making a period to start. I thought Provera does that? Maybe I'm wrong, but since I have known I've had PCOS (3 years), I've done allot of research on this. If your not getting your periods then you need Provera...Metformin will not bring a period on. Metformin will work if your on a diet, most doctors say a low carb diet or a diet for those who have diabetes because our bodies (even though you DO NOT have to be insulin resistance) do not break down the sugars and carbs like normal people do. Therefore, we gain too much weight to cause our periods to stop.

Sobie:

I'm surprised your doctor didn't put you on Metformin earlier. Once I found out I had PCOS, metformin was given right away. Normally they give that first, too see if your body can matain a normal cycle...and then they give you Clomid. But I guess there was a reason for that. Metformin will in time give you normal periods, but if your body is not letting you have a period in the first place...then Metformin will not induce it for your body. In that case you need Provera, maybe only the first month and then Metformin will kick in after that because your body might "understand" the cycle better.

Good luck ladies.

Hi ladies I had to bump in.. In the most recent studies of overweight women with PCOS metformin can restore a normal period and ovulation.  In fact in the newest studies metformin has been shown to be more effective at inducing ovulation than clomid in women with high BMI and PCOS and the combo of the two drugs does not increase the numbers at all.  If for some reason you don't start your period after 6 months on metformin you should take prometrium to induce AF, as provera is derived from a male version of progesterone and god knows we don't need anymore male hormones.  Oh and just a side note about clomid, it's really a horrible drug for some women with PCOS it tells your ovary to ovulate by increasing follicle size...ALL of them!! so definitely ask about provera as it tells your ovary to only mature the best follicle.  Hopefully that helps some.

The reason they put me on clomid was cause I had a child already and they said it was because I was not O every month. But when they found out that I had PCOS they never told me about nothing but clomid metformin was given to me this week cause I went back to a GYN and my RE told me he would not give it to me because he wanted to keep trying Clomid and since I had one awesome month he kept me on it but when I did O this month he told me we would try something else. But he is costing me money to see him so I went to the gyn and he told me metformin was what he would give me and I did ask about Ferema and he said he knew nothing of it I told him to look in to it for me. but who knows. But I am real worried about taking the metformin and I join a gym yesturday so I can lose 10lb that I have gain with clomid. And I was thinking since I had my daughter with no meds and no AF why cant I try again. Just do what the doc told me and relax and take baths. I just hate taking these meds and they affect other things in your body like I have problems with my heart as it is and I know metformin causes more problems for those with heart, liver ect. So thats why I worry so much over these meds.  I will see how I feel later to take them, not sure about it. I was just thinking going to the gym 3 times a week and walking with my dogs every night will help get my body back in the right track. I change my eatting ways already so I think may be working out will help and help me to for get the stress of TTC...

Knowing that you did it the first time around...I know you can do it again! Trust me I know how hard it is with the weight. You see other people eating whatever they want and no problem...and it's us who have pcos deal with the crazy weigt gain. I mean I'm sitting here at work...STARVING and seeing my coworkers eating chips and candy for snacks...and UGH it's so hard! But I know what has to be done....weight needs to come off and I know in the future things will be better for me.

With your diet, (i don't know how active you are) but I would take up some walking. Try it for 30 minuets a day...along with that a diet. Try as hard as you possibly can to stay clear of too many carbs. If you like pasta, choose whole graine and stick to the portion of 2 oz. The same for bread and rice. Potatoes are fine in moderation. Drink plenty of water, atleast 8 onces a day. If water gets on your nerves, try some crystal light. They have so many flavors and I love to put them in some seltzer water...to give me that "soda" feeling. Eat fruits and veggies, and remember to reward yourself atleast once a week! If you did good all week on watching your food intake...go for that desert you've been wanting all week! You can't rid everything from your diet...once in a while will not harm us.

Oh yeah, and set yourself a goal. Set 10% of your current body weight. The first 10lbs are easy...its the rest after that! lol

Good luck! And I'm always around if you ever need anything eles.

One other thing I wanted to point out.

Sobie, since you tried Clomid before and didn't work the way it should have...I would bring to the attention to your doctor, to try both clomid or maybe fermera along with metformin. There have been allot of sucess stories on these two drugs combined.

Same thing for you Tina, I would say because your only starting out on a treatment...give metformin 3 months. If not pregnant by then, you also might want to check in with your doctor to see if they will let you do clomid and metformin together.

Funny cause my Doc gave it to me to help with AF and make it more normal, Cause I dont have weight problem or inslin problems thanks god for that. I do have the hair and miss AF but on CLomid I never O but only once of the 6 months and so they took me off and put me on Metformin to help with it. Nothing is 100%, but since Met is given to  help fix PCOS problems, that is the underline problem it helps you to O cause Met helps your body get to were it needs to. I am only saying this cause I have been to tons of docs and I ask tons of questions so I am informed well about what they are doing to me. And many doc will tell you they have the key to help your problem but in fact no one does its all in gods hands and he has the power to make your body do what it needs to, to have a baby. I have PCOS for the last 14 years and I got an 12 year old who by gods help I have her no meds not even AF so that tells you alot. Your body has to be healthy and strong and stress free cleared from - and making love. Things will happend in time when god feels we are ready and our souls are at peace. Wishing you all luck and the best SSBD your way. Keep + and stand strong all will work its self out. I have know some people that when they stop taking all these meds they get their BFP and all with the work of no stress and no meds. It can happen.

I want to point out, that even with a normal cycel...it does not mean you ovulate. Those are cycels that are called anovulatory cycle. You can have a normal period, but just not ovulate. My doctor told me that metformin is not meant to help with ovulation...it can with a steady diet plan help to restore a normal menstral cycle, in which some women can have "spontaneous" ovulation...meaning it might only happen once in a while.

Doctors give us metformin to help with the side affects of PCOS.

You have when you have a normal cycle yes you Ovulate. When normal people Ovulate it takes even them time to get pregos. Not every month you will have good eggs, some good or even better then others. I say relax take it easy and take met and let your body get back on track so you can Ovulate. Thats all you need is one good egg. and with reg cycles your chances get higer to pregos. I know how you feel. I was on clomid and I only Ov once the whole 6 months I was on it. I tell you no meds will help with conceiving its all up to your body to make that one good egg and you getting it on time. I am going to tell you my story. I have a 12 year old, Docs told me that I would NEVER have kids... I never took any durgs or did I even know at the time that I had PCOS. Now when the doc told me that I gave up all hope to having a family a year later I missed my AF for 5 months didnt think nothing of it and said oh well I am always late. But my family told me take a HPT and see I said to them I cant have kids docs told me so. So after a month of worry what was going on I went to the ER and told them I was having back and chest pains cause I was. And I told them I dont know why this is happening to me he ask when was your last AF I told him 5 months ago and he way like lets do a pee test and see. He did and it came back - and I was like I told you I am not prego I have chest pains and back pains and he was like you need to take this shot and he gave me 3 to stop the pain. Any ways long story short, I went to another ER 2 weeks later and I told him what I was still feeling I had nothing else just back and chest pains. So he said your pregos I said OMG I am NOT I took a test at the other ER and it came back - and he sent me to do blood work. well it came back that I was in fact prego. I was 3 months along... My point to you is that when your relax your body will do what it needs to do with or with out meds it can happen... I am here to say if it happen to me with out meds and without even having AF it can happen to any one you just have to have faith and + in your life. Met will help you to Ov now its up to your body to help have a good egg. I hope you understand now. SSBD and I know you will get your BFP soon. I have a friend that on her first round of Met she got a BFP so it can happen. She too is on Medhelp.. Good luck and stay + and relax enjoy BD dont make it a must do...

Metformin will not help you conceive. It will only help, in time with a diet to have a normal period each month. Most doctors give metformin to help with the symptoms of pcos.
