Increasing the chances of fertility

Even with my PCOS I've been ALMOST reguliar when it comes to my cycle. I've been reading about PCOS and diets and what not to increase fertility. Is there anything people have done either sexually or diet wise to help?

Carbs and sugars are bad for us who have PCOS. Like jilianporter said carbs get converted into sugars and for those who have PCOS have a hard time breaking those simply foods down. Things like white flour, pasta, bread are not BAD per say....but if you cannot rid those of your diet atleast eat the whole graines, whole wheat pasta (searving size, of course which is 2 ounces). Watch what types of fruit you eat, as some are worse then others. Grapes instead of bananas are a better choice as bananas are higher in carbs. Now, I do not mean to go on a strict low carb diet....as that would be very hard for most of us. But all I say is watch the amount you take in. When I was really following my diet (and not having personal problems) I lost 62.5lbs down to 270 at my all time lowest weight. Sad to say I have gained about 18lbs of that back, but still maintaining with not eating so many carbs.

All carbs are converted into sugar in the blood.  Simple carbs (like those found in sweets) are converted into sugar rapidly so will make your blood sugar spike quickly (making it easier to .  Complex carbs (like those found in breads, pastas, etc) take longer to be converted into sugar, so they raise blood sugar more slowly.

Two books I recommend are the Insulin Resistance Diet and the PCOS Workbook, both talk extensively about diet and identify foods to avoid.

Actually, they say carbs are good for women with PCOS. They say you have to watch your sugars because of the insulin resistant part of PCOS. Metphormin works great. I have been using it for a while now and am now on a 29 day cycle. However, haven't had my period that I was due for 3 weeks ago and was showing pregnancy symptoms the last couple of weeks. However HPTs all BFNs.....but good luck to you guys.

before my PCOS diagnosis in January my cycles were almost regular too (well, during the last year I had a 52 day, 63 day, and 45 day cycle, all the others were pretty much about 36-37 days...the long cycles seemed to coincide with evil ovarian cysts).  At the time of my diagnosis I weighed about 136-138lb (I'm 5'6") but I just couldn't seem to lose that last ten lbs (I was about 120-125 when I got pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago).

anyway, when i got the PCOS diagnosis I also found out that I have mild insulin resistance.  I wanted to try diet and excercise alone, but my RE highly recommended I try metformin first. So, I did and didn't make any modifications to my diet (I don't have a bad diet, but i do love those carbs...bread and pasta are so yummy!).... since I started taking the metformin the first week of February (so two months ago) I have lost the ten pounds I couldn't get rid of.

If by sad chance my 2nd/3rd IUIs with meds don't work, hubby and I are going back to trying on our own and I will definitely be doing the diet thing.  I hope it works for you!

I've been following a low glycemic index diet; it's supposed to be beneficial to women with PCOS because of the whole insulin resistance issue...
