PCOS and Metformin

Hey there,
I was diagnosed with PCOS early this year and started on Metformin, which has had good effects so far, in that my hormone levels are now nearly normal, and i'm ovulating regularly.  I'm not currently looking to have children, my main issue is actually my weight.  At the moment I'm about 35lbs heavier than i was 2 years ago, and even though i exercise regularly, I can't seem to shake those pounds off.  My doctor thought that the Metformin would help, but I think i've put on half a stone since i started on it.  I know that i should be following a low GI meal plan, and while i do avoid white bread/rice and potatos as much as my (struggling) will power allows, I also know that i should be more strict.  Does anyone know of anything else i can try in conjunction with this? or of any magical willpower tricks? or has anyone else found it difficult to lose weight while on metformin?  This struggle with my weight has really gotten to me lately.  I've come to hate nights out with my friends, coz i always feel like the fat one in the corner, and i've started to avoid them altogether, which was never like me in the past.
Thanks guys,
ck83

Fill your dinner plate 3/4 of the way with low calorie vegetables.  There are so many out there to choose from.  You can even try to grow your own garden this summer (assuming northern hemisphere here).  Find vegetable based meals and replace all but a little bit of your milk intake with water.  When you feel hungry drink a full glass of water and then see if you are still hungry.  Many people mistake thirst as hunger.

I found it easy to lose weight on metformin. But it was really hard for my friend.

The difference between the two of us is that I have insulin resistance with  the pcos and she does not have the insulin resistance so she was gaining weight with metformin.
