Pcos or not????

My gynecologist recently informed me that she suspects that I MAY have PCOS due to my lack of ovulation and heavy menstrual cycles. So she has prescribed me depo provera in order to control my heavy bleeding. (My periods have ALWAYS been irregular since I was 11 and it's very common for me to miss 2- 3 months of a period and then to experience heavy bleeding for over a month!) But they did a vaginal ultrasound and found NO cysts! They said my uterine lining was a little thick but NO cysts!  So I have been prescribed depo. However,  I am already  obese (I'm now  300 lbs and I'm only 5'3) and the depo seems to make my weight worse! I'm really frustrated and scared!  If I'm already obese then why would I be prescribed depo if the effects of it is weight gain? Was this smart for my gynecologist to do??? What can I do about my weight and my menstrual periods?  Before depo, I was given regular birth control pills that didn't help my heavy menstrual cycle and since that didn't work, I was given depo. I'm 31  and looking to start a family in the next 5 yrs (no hurry though ) but what do I do now? Do I have PCOS? By the way, I have a dull pain on my right side that is only noticeable when I lay down on that side. Is this related? I'm so frustrated and confused. Please help :(

Thanks for posting. This is very helpful. I have a similar problem because I seem to have pcos symptoms but no cysts and endometriosis.
Pretty much given up on pregnancy but wonder if I should try something else.
Have a great ER but all roads seem to lead to IVF or IU...whatever.
Anyway will try to read your articles.

Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. I can relate. I'm going to post two links for you to read. This is how I am treating my PCOS. 5 Days after I started this natural regimen, My late period started!

I take NAC,Myo-Inositol,Folate, Fertile CM from Fairhaven Health and a prenatal. Obviously your needs would change if you are not trying to conceive but if you read Dr. Aviva Romm's suggestions on what to take you may figure out what suits you!

PCOS is hereditary and you may not have any symptoms until you gain weight. It is an insulin resistance. Then it makes it hard to lose the weight. I was also told to remove Dairy and Gluten from  my diet, which I am working on now. Diet plays a huge role so I would look into that as well!
It sounds like PCOS to me but if I were you I would see a better GYNO and have them refer you to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I hate hearing when patients are just put on the pill, which in the long run is just worse for your body. They need to do blood tests for you to determine the diagnosis.

Best of luck!
