I know I'm late in commenting but one of my OBs for infertility treatment prescribed provera to induce my period then clomid to induce ovulation.
Hi Annie sorry it took so long getting back to you but I just saw my gyn yesterday. She explained that because I have endometrial hyperplasia it can lead to uterine cancer so the Provera is supposed to help that but I can take it for 6 months and then have breakout bleeding (?) and go back for a biopsy and see if it helped or I can take it for 3 weeks and get my period the 4th week. I forgot my prescription when I went on vacation and ended up getting my period which I have had for almost 2 weeks now so I am wondering if after the 6 months is up my "breakout bleeding" is going to be an even longer period :/ I have an appt with an endocrinologist in September so I might just take it till then and see what that doctor says.
Write back and tell what he says. I'd be very curious to see why anyone would be prescribed Provera for such a long time unless there are breaks.
Thank you Annie. Pretty much everything I've read online is the same as what you said so I will call my dr and check.
It seems different than the way Provera is usually used. If I were to be given a 6-month prescription for Provera, it would be in order to: take provera for 6 days and stop, have a period come, next month take provera for 6 days and stop, have a period come, etc. I think as long as you are taking the Provera, you don't get a period. Maybe you should check in with your doctor and be sure you are understanding the instructions you were given.
