thanks for the info on clomid I had been thinking about trying it, my sister was on it with all three of her kids but if there is another med without alot of issues then maybe Ill research that instead. Ive tried the clear blue digital ovulation tests and no matter what time of the month I take it, it always says ready to go. It says on the box that it wont work with pcos. I got pregnant last month but had a m/c so I know that I can O but how often I dont know. I will now check to see if I can find a RE in my area and see if they can do a better job for me. thanks guys for the info.
Femara is a postmenopausal drug but when women with low estrogen or PCOS take it it triggers FSH to be released from your brain causing a follicle to mature and ovulate. It has less side effects than clomid. Also clomid increases your chances of developing breast cancer later in life where femara does not, And clomid does not pick a single follicle to mature it tries to mature many, so you may not ovulate with clomid and you might develop more cycts. It disturbs me that some OBGYN's and RE's are still prescribing clomid as a first drug in women with PCOS. Most recent studies show that women with PCOS are more likely to ovulate with metformin alone than with clomid. for those who have success with clomid that's great but that drug is not for me, and I would never recommend it to a women with PCOS. sorry about the rant that drug did bad things to me.
If you are concerned if you are ovulating pick up the clear blue easy digital ovulation test, be careful with the cheapies some women with PCOS have naturally high levels of LH and can get false positives with cheapies. You really should be seeing a RE (reproductive endocrinologist) you have a endocrine disorder that needs to be treated by a specialist. good luck to both of you.
The RE is a fertility specialist. You can take clomid to help. Its normaly used before other drugs. Famara is a postmenopausal drug. It can be used if other drugs like clomid dont. PCOS is were you have cysts on your ovaris. they can overwelm the ovaries to were they dont work on there own. So you wont ovulate or get a period. The drugs basically force them to work. the metformin helps shrink the cysts to allow your ovaries to work normaly. As long as your ovulating your dr will probably not give you any other meds until you have been trying for a long time. Hope this helps and good luck!
