PCOS isnt a STD or similar, its a condition 1 in 10 women have whether sexually active or not. Its a condition that occurs due to hereditary circumstance or, steroid use. Its essentially the overstimulation of your ovaries which causes multiple follicles to surround your ovaries.
PCOS got its name during a time before ultrasounds could depict follicles vs. cysts. Dr's thought what they were seeing were multiple cysts, hence the name, but in fact its all the extra follicles that cause PCOS. Some women get cysts from their follicles not being absorbed back into their bodies after not maturing and non-ovulating follicles turning cystic, but cysts dont deem the name, the follicles do.
PCOS generally occurs at the time of puberty. Thus, virgins and non-virgins a like can have this condition.

PCOS is a syndrome that affects your hormone and reproductive system.  It's a condition.  Women are diagnosed with it at all different times in their lives.  Some people find out they have it when they are young.  I was diagnosed in my 30s.
It is not something you contract.
