dr. wont listen to me !

i am so frustrated. i have had irregular periods since i was 9 !!! at 1st doctors said to wait a couple yrs for it to regulate then after that they wanted to put me on birth control even though i was 13. then they said maybe the irregular periods came from my being athletic...yes i was athletic but i never lost any weight every yr since middle schoold through these college years i have just gained weight. i did almost the impossible and lost 32lbs last yr and now i have gained 30 of them back !!! i weight 165 at 5,3. i do have some small skin tags, i have the grosseest periods ever until and sometimes while on bc. my discharge and period would look like thick chocolate fudge or sometimes even like the actual lining had come down and stayed whole. the most horrible blood clots that hurt so badly....i have pelvic pain & do have more hair than id like, thick and dark too. after many attempts i got one dr. to do a sonogram on my ovaries and sure enough they were both full of cysts, they looked like they had a pearl necklace inside. after that i lost my ins. for a while a now i am trying to get my dr. to help but she wont she simply gives me another bc pill and thats it. i have had slightly high cholestoral and have heard the word pre-diabetic and still no dr. wants to help me. i hope it doesnt sound bad but maybe i am not big enough, or have enough acne & hair for them but i feel like they want me to get worst before they will help me get better !!! what do i do??? i mean what more do they need than my cyst filled ovaries??? help me please!!!

Hey Hun,

It definitely sounds like PCOS. I mean weight ( I'm guessing mostly around your waist), pre-diabetic, ovaries filled with cysts, lack of regular ovulation, irregular periods, hair growth, acne, skin tags...it's pretty much textbook PCOS. The fudge type bleeding sounds like another PCOS symptom, Endometrial Hyperplasia and possibly endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining) due to overaccumulation of uterine lining, and also lack of progesterone resulting in prolonged stimulation of uterine cells by estrogen  The only thing for regulating your period is birth control unfortunately and if weight loss is an issue maybe your doctor could prescribe Metformin, I know it makes people physically ill at times but it does help to control PCOS and to lose weight. Good luck. =)
