I only assume I have PCOS because my hormones are out of whack and I have ovarian cysts. My symptoms have been going on for 10+ years and no doctor ever diagnosed me with this condition or even mentioned it. I have been struggling for the last 2+ years with severe health problems and was recently diagnosed with insulin resistance (metabolic syndrome). Make sure your doctor is very informative about this condition. Ask lots of questions. My Endocrinologist told me that my ovarian cysts were caused by to much insulin floating around in my body.
My hormones are within normal limits but I have a lot of cysts. you need an ultrasound AND bloodwork to know for sure. good luck
I don't have cysts on my ovaries...And I only have some symptoms that go hand and hand with PCOS. But my hormone levels are slightly knocked out of place. So that was the way I was given a diag of PCOS.
Blood tests....to check your hormone levels would be your best bet (pending you don't already have cysts on the ovaries). Not all women who have PCOS have cysts.
Not necessarily.
You do not have to have polycystic ovaries to have PCOS. Even if you do have polycystic ovaries, they will not always have cysts on them.
www.pcos.northwestern.edu is a wonderful cite to get a brief idea of everything associated with PCOS
