Egg Donor

Does anyone on here know anything about being an egg donor? I have offered to do this for my sister who is having issues ttc. I am just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have any suggestions, advice, or experience with this process? Thank you!

She lives in a different state, and has been tested, as has her husband. We are awaiting my medical records to be transferred to her Dr., and then going to go from there. I am 33 years old, so hopefully age won't become an issue. Thank you for the information, and thank you for the compliments. Who wouldn't do this for their big sister? My sister is the amazing one. =)

If you decide to do this, you and your sister should talk to the fertility clinic soon, since everything takes a lot of time -- testing (you, her and her husband), counseling, being checked by the shrink, legal agreements, and then the medical parts of it.  A lot of clinics do have an age-30 cutoff for donors, but will go with an older donor than 30 if she is a relative, however, time is not your friend because it does reduce the odds of success.  Overall, the cost to your sister will probably be around twenty thousand dollars, once the different parties are covered (lawyer's fee for me and the donor was something like $1200, for example.  Drugs were in the $4,000 range all told, doctor costs were $8000 for the transfer and I can't remember how much for retrieval, etc.)

I second olderMom's comments.  It is truly a beautiful gift you are offering.

Here is the very little I know.  I believe that first you have to be approved by her fertility Dr.  This is to try to eliminate those who have eggs that might not make it.  I believe age is a factor.  Once approved, they put you on fertility meds and then harvest the eggs using the same process they harvest eggs from IVF candidates.  Egg is fertilized with dad's sperm, implanted into potential mom and hopefully produces a baby!  Now, there is far more to it then that....that's the readers digest version..lol.

Another good place to ask this question would be the Fertility Community

I wish you and your sister all the best and think you are a pretty fabulous lady to be doing this.  Good luck!!
