Yeah, I would avoid the hot springs. My doctor said comfortably warm baths are ok (which I love) but she said no saunas/ hot tubs. It will probably feel good on your feet though!
Lol wow that really *****, nothing is more relaxing then a hot bath :( Oh well, i'll just stick my feet in then haha.
I know it's scary and a lot of people don't know... I didn't know either, my doctor never said anything...but luckily my mother-in-law is an OB nurse and when I went to take a bath at her house one time she mentioned it...I was like OMG! And I did ask my doctor at my next OB appointment and he confirmed it....I was like "why is this not the first thing you mention after 'take your prenatals'?! you people have to know that there's nothing a pregnant woman wants more than a hot bath when every muscle and joint hurts!!!" anyway yeah...that's what I've heard tell, lol.
omg thanks for the info!! some hot springs are veeery hot, i'd be scared of boiling the baby!
your body temperature has to be raised above 102 for it to be dangerous..even laying in a tanning bed most of the time wont do that. (at least it didn't for me) but as far as hot water goes i would avoid it because it can definitely cause birth defects especially in your first trimester since your baby is developing all its organs & bones.
birth defects?! oh my goodness scary!! i havent been in anything really hot but i have taken some pretty warm baths and sometimes the laptop on my belly gets warm (i usually have a pillow under it though) if i had known it could cause birth defects i wouldve been sooo much more careful! now im gonna be even more parinoid...thanks ashelen lol jk!
well it's actually not about overheating, unfortunately. from what I have read and been told, it can cause birth defects if the baby's exposed to extreme (hot springs or hot tub temperatures) for any significant length of time...which is why they recommend staying away from a hot bath. I'm not sure I believe that it causes birth defects, but I avoided very hot baths and hot tubs during pregnancy with DD and this one....but I did take some fairly warm ones, LOL, and my daughter had no birth defects....but I think a hot springs would definitely be too hot.
ask your doctor I suppose, because like I said I'm not really sure I believe that theory about birth defects but it's usually better safe than sorry :).
my doc told me that if a bath or shower is too hot, you'll know....so if you feel overheated while sitting in the bath..get out because its too hot! so im imagining the same rule applies to a hot spring. its not reccomended to use hot tubs because it will raise your body temperature therefore making the baby too hot...but i have known people who just lowered the temps of there hot tubs down to like 90 degrees and have been fine. i guess it just depends on what YOUR body can handle...if the hot springs are too hot to sit in you could try just sticking your feet in so you can still enjoy your vacation :) and if you were to get in just do it for a very short time....but it is still best to consult your doctor on what he/she thinks is the right thing to do.
If I'm not mistaken, pregnant women are to stay away from any hot tubs as it will increase body temperature. Now, what that does....I am not sure. You're best bet is to check with your doc.
