I just don't know

My doctor prescribed Medroxyprogesterone 10mg for 10 days I didn't take it the first 2 days, because i was concerned after reading more about it. my husband and I are trying to conceive. I had my Mirena IUD taken out and 4 days after i started my period, it is now 10 days later and i'm still on my period! so my doc prescribed this medication to me from what i gathered it is to stop the bleeding. will this make me ovulate after i have finished taking it?  I really don't know awhile lot about it, so any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.

From my understanding, it is commonly used to "jumpstart" a women's cycle. I took provera in a 10 before my first pregnancy since AF had gone MIA. It basically gives you a withdrawal bleed like the "periods" women have when they are on hormonal birth control pills. The idea is if the lining is shed, then your system will pick up with ovulation and your cycle will "reset".

On a side note, I had my mirena out last spring while having some spotting (the extent of a "period" I ever had while on it) and my next few periods were heavier/longer than I remembered them being, but they were also my first true periods PP so I don't know if they would be different anyway.

I am not sure if it will make you ovulate immediately after finishing the rx but I have been given it before after uterine surgery and my dr said it was to get things back to normal with my cycle. And if your dr prescribes a medication for you it is always best to take it. They don't give out meds to people who don't need them. I am sure it will take a few months to have things even out after the removal of your iud as it does with most kinds of bc.
