baby powder

Hey mama's, 36weeks with a baby girl. Trying to get everything ready. I have many friends who do not use baby powder they say it's made from drywall and many who do use it and think it's absolutely ridiculous not to because rashes. I'm just wondering what you Moms do? I'm thinking yes to baby powder but I'd like to hear what others think

There is absolutely no need for powder. It can cause respiratory issues. Use coconut oil or a paste to protect baby's bottom from irritation.

You are never supposed yo use baby powder on a newborn. Not until they are at least a few months old at a minimum. Baby powder ends up in the air very easily, even if you can't see it and the smallest amount can cause severe respiratory distress in a newborn. Its not worth the risk, just use a diaper cream. The key is to make sure the skin is nice and dry before applying it. Moist skin is what causes rashes. You can even use a hair dryer on a cool setting if you want to help dry baby's bottom before applying the cream, but I'd steer clear of powder.
