I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks 2 days and all was seen is a sac then went back a week later and saw the fetal pole and heartbeat. My doctor explained that most machines can't detect the pole or heartbeat much before 6 weeks since baby is so tiny then. My son is now almost two years old. It's only time to worry if there's nothing to see at 6 weeks or you start bleeding and cramping

When I was 5 weeks and 3 days I had an ultrasound and all I saw was a sac, nothing else. When I went back at 6 weeks and 1 day I saw a fetal pole. I can't believe how fast they grow. I'm laying here with my baby and I can't believe she was the size of a dinky little sprinkle at one time! Don't worry you will see something at your next ultrasound. Its so awesome to see. Good luck to you on your journey!

5 wks is pretty early to see a fetal pole usually only a yolk sack is visable, like anniebrooke says another two weeks will make all the difference :)

Most doctors don't do a 5-week ultrasound because you really can't tell much from them.  Go back in a couple of weeks, all should be fine.
