You are considered full term after 37 weeks. You can try castor oil, eating pineapples, sex, walking. I was 38 weeks just this past week and my Dr considered me trying those things to get me to dilate since I haven't dilated yet and I'm now 39 weeks

I'm not dilated at all (just under 38 weeks) but my mother never dilated with either of us kids and we were born at 36 and 37 weeks respectively... Just suddenly went into labor and all was fine. Some women just don't dilate until labor starts.

All I said was wait, I'm not bashing her.  Sometimes people *do* think 37 weeks is full term and it's not.  The longer the baby cooks the better it is for baby.

I don't think she's trying to get herself to go into Labor. I'm sure she just wants to dilate a bit before the big day! Of course a woman can go from 1-10 cm in a day but you can't bash her for not being full term and attempting to get the ball rolling.

Babies are considered OK to be born at 37 weeks, in that they don't try to stop labor if it begins after 37 weeks, and if a woman is having trouble with something like seriously high blood pressure the doctor will not hesitate to induce at 37 weeks.  But they are considered full term at 40 weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period, meaning 40 weeks the way doctors count "weeks."  That's 38 weeks from conception, but it's 40 weeks the way pregnancy is counted when you go in for your appointments.

Babies are considered full term at 37wks. Its best to go to 40wks. Only way to get urself to dilate is to have contractions! I went into L&D yesterday with contractions 3min apart but i wouldn't dilate past 2cm so they sent me home after a pain shot. Im having contractions about 5min apart today but im waiting as long as i can bc i dnt want to be sent home again. This is my 4th baby and im 38w5d!!!

Wait.  You're still a couple of weeks from full term.
