dangers when unborn baby poops

I know that babies urinate into the amniotic sac while in the womb. and during birth there is a risk that they have their first bowel movement. if that occurs the baby has to be delivered quickly because it can be dangerous. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

how is it the baby won't poop during pregnancy already? how can u tell if she has or hasn't yet had a bowel movement before she's actually born?

My daughter had her first bowel movement when I went into labor. They could tell by the greenish colors in my water when it broke. I still delivered her vaginally ten hours later. They had NICU on stand by just in case she swallowed it with her first breath but she cried out and they left the room right away.

My younger brother had his first bm before he was born and ended up having serious problems because of it. he has cerebral palsy and is 25 but back then it was totally different they didnt have as much knowledge about the dangers of these kinds of things.

The bAby passes the first stool when their bowels fully mature or they start to eat milk of some kind. Some baby's don't even go till a day or so after birth. Sometimes the stress of labor can bring on the first stool. There is no way to prevent it from happening and you would not know till waters break unless baby starts having distress. The baby's bowels develop at the end of pregnancy and more so if you go over but some go over and never have a problem. Don't stress over something you can't control.

My 2nd daughter swallowed hers as she was being born. Her heart rate dropped so they had to use forecepts to pull her out. It was the most painful thing in the world bc I went into labor so fast I wasn't able to have any type of meds. When she came out she was blue and not breathing. The Dr wasn't sure if she would make it. Thank God she did, but they took her directly to the nicu. I wasn't able to see or hold her for about 11 hrs.

My first daughter had her first bm before she was delivered (via c-section) and inhaled or swallowed(sorry I'm not sure which) but only needed about an hour in the NICU. I'm sure it can be worse though.

Your water will look greenish.  Only if you are in labor for a long time after the baby poops is it dangerous.  My first had pooped, but he was born about 10 min after my water broke so they weren't too concerned.

Meconium (that first poop material) is very sticky and pretty much stays inside the baby.  There is not much in the bowel and it forms relatively late in pregnancy.

They can tell based on the color of your water when it breaks. Clear fluid will tell you baby hasn't pooped...I'm not sure what color it is when they pooped but it's definitely not clear.
