My doctor is pushing me to get all these vaccines while pregnant. Like flu and whooping cough. I've put it off so far. Just want others opinions?

I just got mine yesterday. Its the only way to give some protection to the baby since they won't be able to get their own vaccine right away.

I guess the real question is why you're putting it off? When women become pregnant there are changes in the immune system, heart and lungs that make you more susceptible to severe illness with the flu virus. It can even cause serious issues like premature labor for the baby. So, by protecting yourself you're also protecting your baby and even after the baby is born. It's the same idea with whooping cough. The baby can't get vaccinated for that until 6 weeks old at the earliest so the best thing to do is to vaccinate yourself to protect him or her since you'll be in contact with the child the most. I work in pediatrics and vaccines are always a concern for some reason. I hope this helps you decide.

I got both of mine...flu with this pregnancy and both flu and whooping cough with my last, my son is 14 months. I have 2 daughters in school and between my job, food shopping, being in public or around kids at all I believe they are worth getting. With being pregnant and immune system being compromised to a degree it's better to play it safe for you and your little one.

I don't get or give vaccines. It's a hot topic, but my research has led me to this decision and it's the right one for me. Do what feels right to you based on your research and don't have regrets from your decision.

I'd get whooping cough for sure. I'm getting mine in 3 weeks when I have new insurance that makes it free. If you'd rather avoid the flu vaccine this year go for it, it has been deemed ineffective by the CDC for this season since it mutated too fast. You're partner and those around the baby should also get the whooping cough vaccine.  My hubby got his weeks ago and I'm glad he did.

Have never gotten any extra vaccines..I'm onto my third kid and I am (knock on wood) never sick so it's your personal choice of course ;)

Not worth the risk to not get it. If your baby gets whooping cough he or she might die.

I've only been putting mine off cause I hate needles lol I am only 30 weeks pregnant and have got the flu shot. I planned on getting the whooping cough at my next apt on the 29th. Just curious to see what everyone's opinions are.

Dtap is to help your baby have immunity against whooping cough. I got mine at 34 weeks.

I got the flu and whooping cough vaccines... I was a little ify at first... But she told me it helps protect baby from whooping cough since the baby is to small to get the shot for it so I went ahead and did it

My husband and I got both. Since the baby can't get them until months after birth, it is really good for them to get it from you when your pregnant. Only side effect we had was a sore arm. I'm right handed so I get them in my right arm so it won't get as sore and stiff.

Do your own research. I did my own and decided against getting the vaccinations that and the fact that I have two other children and the vaccinations weren't being pushed then. Make your own decision based on being informed and not paranoia.

Whooping cough is often fatal in infants under 3 months...do you really want to risk your baby's life over something completely preventable

I gave in and got the tdap after a ton if back and forth and research. In the end for me the known risks of he illnesses and the rate of infection growing like it has been lately was worse than the slim unknown risks if the vaccines. Haven't gotten the flu shot though and think I'll skip it. I use sanitizer and wash hands and eat healthy and take vitamins and avoid sick people and kids.

Paranoia?!?!? How about the biggest outbreaks of whooping cough in forty years? The deaths of infants who could easily have been protected? These are facts, darlin'. Not speculation, and not the fear-mongering you're trying to spread.
I don't think those of us who are listening to our doctors and respecting the actual medical research (instead of whatever you're studying at the University of Google) are the paranoid ones.

@geekmom1213 just because you don't agree with somebody else's opinion means they are wrong!! You might think you are always right, but the lady that posted this is asking for opinions , we all have very clear what yours is and you can do whatever you want with your body and kids! It's your decision, but please be a little open minded and respect diversity! Not everyone thinks like you and instead of insulting just respect! @3rdndone was letting her know to do her own research and make an informed decision! Nothing wrong with that. There are doctor that don't agree with vaccines during pregnancy and. It's fine! They are just espousing their point of view and it's up to us to make an informed choice!
Good luck everyone with their pregnancies and please don't get vaccines just because somebody "push you" to get them! Get them if that is your decision only
