Midwife experiences

Has anybody considered or given birth with a midwife? If so, how was it? Do you recommend it?

I would love to have my kids through a midwife but I can't seem to find one around my area :( but I'd love to hear stories and all.

Just becareful as there are two types of midwife certification in this country.  Also you can't necessarily compare our midwifes to those I'm other countries as the training can be vastly different.  Make sure to get both sides of the story.  Take a moment to read the blog hurt by home birth.  I'm not against home birth, though its not for me, I just feel no matter if you chose home hospital or birth center lots of research needs to be done.  This goes for who you chose as a provider as well.  There are good docs and good midwives as well as bad docs and midwives but we have to do our research.  I have an ob and she knows I want a natural birth with intervention only in case of emergency.  She is completely on board with my decision and supports me at every turn.  Just ask your provider lots of questions.  You can have a beautiful birth in a hospital as well as birth centers and home

I think 90% is a high number for women who schedule their births.  I know this is just my first hand experience but of the many many women I know who have had babies only one I know of scheduled her birth.  Also by what I've seen on these forums its seems as only a small number have scheduled inductions or c sections.

OMG that's really bad.    I'm gonna watch that tomorrow night (since it's 120am here)  that really is bad, I knew MWs weren;t well thought of over there, I got that from reading I done while I was pregnant.    That's the one good thing I cna say about our NHS, it that it's all arranged for you, no matter what kinda birth you want, and we don't have to faff about with insurance and what not.   OUr Midwives here do a 3 year Diploma, then a years' Degree course then they have to do Post-Graduate of they wanna specialise in any area x

You should watch a documentary called the business of being born. It touches base on how horrible the birthing system is over here. A good 90% of women here schedule they're births. There are very little MW here because our medical system says they are untrained and soooo much bs. My sister had an instance where her doctor told her that she had to re schedule the date that she wanted to get induced because her original date was the day of his daughters wedding and he was the only one that could help her. It doesn't sound as bad as it really is that's why I'm telling you to watch it. I came across it on Netflix and I've been obsessed with this. To the point I wanna become a certified nurse midwife.

Ah right, I'm not sure how you would get it arranged in America unfortunately.    We never see Drs when pregnant over here unless there;s a medical reason, all our appointments, check ups and sweeps are done by our midwife, then a hospital based midwife deilvers the baby once you're admitted.    From what I have read, its good to have a MW affiliated with a local hospital so that, god fobid, something happens (even baby pooping in your waters) you can go to hospital x

I love in the US and it is a religion to go to the hospital and have your baby with an obstetrician. But I've heard of horror stories. I'm trying to get pregnant and I've been looking for a midwife here in my area but its nearly damn impossible to find one. I wanted a home birth but I was able to find a birthing center. I've been researching and all and both my husband and I agree that this is a better route for us. I keep hearing about aided births and c-sections and sooo many things its scary! I just wanted to advise and insight on how it works.

Where do you stay?    In the UK, you always have a midwife there.    You are assigned a midwife from the start of your laour so you have someone available at all times.    You only get a Dr in if the MW feels it's necessary to have one there.    My MW was fab x
