2 1/2 week old baby

My baby's belly button hasn't healed yet. Her cord fell off at 10 days old, she is 18 days old now. And her doc applied silver nitrate yesterday. I didn't know what it was until I researched it, and he never bothered to tell me. But now it looks raw, and red, no blood, or pus. But I think it's bothering her a lot. How soon for it to heal?

The belly button is a dead nerve so it doesnt hurt them. I was very concered with this too because my daughters got caught on her onzie and tore off (no bleeding) the dr said it didnt hurt her at all and when she did the nitrate she didnt even wimper and my girl was a cryer so I know it didnt hurt her.

Well her doctor said don't do anything to it. All I have done so far is not cover it, letting air in. Hopefully that helps. But is it painful to her because she cries a lot now.

My second had the same issue. When you dont get under the whole cord when cleaning it cant dry out and fall off evenly. Use a qtip and rubbing alcohol.
