2 year old getting 2nd set of tubes in ears.

My son had his first set of tubes put in July 2010. They lasted 8 months, he is now suffering from constant ear infections and they are putting in ANOTHER set of tubes on April 19th. I am a wreck.. It was so hard to watch him be anesthesized last time, and I am just wondering if it is normal to need tubes again so soon? I would have posted in parenting toddlers, but there is never any "action" in that forum.. Thanks.

I had tubes in my ears twice but I don't recall the length of time between them.

Thanks. I just found out he's having issues again. I went to the E,N,&T specialist Wednesday as his primary care Dr said she couldn't tell if the tubes were intact &/or functioning. He is already scheduled for surgery.. I just thought it was weird he needed another set of tubes so soon..

Yes it is normal to get them replaced, please don't wait to long to get them replaced as it can cause long term damage. My son was forever getting infections, but it was a bit late for one ear, and now he is profoundly deaf in one ear. all the best.
