confusing first appointment

I had my first appointment today. I was only supposes to have my baby measured and do a medical history check. Well I get there I do the history thing and they have me strip fully naked and decided to do a pap, pelvic exam, breast exam and does all that and decides to do a vaginal ultrasound but he didn't measure or anything he stuck in the thingy an just took a picture let me hear the heart an that a it. He didn't say anything and I wanted my mom to see the ultrasound but they didn't tell me they were gunna do that. So only my bf got to see cuz they only asked if I wanted my mom in the room for the pap and stuff...I was disappointed and confused.

Depending on how far along you are it wouldn't be possible to get a good picture with an abdominal US. Don't be too upset about it

Yep, thats pretty typical for a first appointment. Agreed they should have told you what they were about to do before they do it but welcome to the medicalisation of the female body. Most drs don't have a great 'bedside manner'. I think my drnis amazing due to his knowledge and how he managed my last high risk pregnancy, not so much his communication skills.

I asked like a thousand times if I was getting one so my husband would be present. I didn't want him to miss it so it keeps asking.

But I expected a normal ultrasound not vaginal they didn't inform me any of this would be done

They didnt tell me an ultrasound would be done either! Im still upset to this day about it because my baby daddy missed it and whenever I bring up sonos he just gets really upset that he missed the first one :'( . The thing that kinda helps is remembering that your probably gonna have another child later on....and that will be the one you will for sure know they will do a sono at first! Yeah, its not the same as the first, but it still gives your mom something to look forward to! Thats how we are kind of looking at it.

Thats the normal thing for a first prenatal check up.

I've always had those done at a first appointment.  Except for the ultrasound.  Usually they tell you before they do that.
