Pregnancy and methadone

OK so I am a 22 yr old mother to a beautiful 11 month old baby girl.  Since about a week after she was born I started taking 2-3 10mg methodone pills.  I was never really addicted to any other drug until now.  So yesterday morning I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive.  I can't be any more than 7 wks if that. I've seen a lot of posts about people on methadone while pregnant and I'm not so much worried about defects since I haven't seen anything linking defects to methadone.  I'm more worried about miscarriage and WD for the baby.  I've seen a lot of people ween themselves off and others continue to use.  I am determined to get off of them for my babies sake.  This is my plan of doing so and trying to get opinions and advice.   10mg-1x day for 2 wks... 1/2 of a 10mg pill 1x day for 2 wks......  1/4 of a 10mg pill 1x day for 2 wks then completely done. Most of the people I see that ween themselves off go 1mg every 2 wks but I can't really do it by mg with a 10 mg pill.  So I'm wondering if you guys think this is a slow enough process or what.  I haven't been to an ob yet and DO NOT want to bring it up to them BC I know CPS will get involved and my kids are what I live for and couldn't bare the thought of loosing them.  I feel terrible and like a huge POS for even having to ween my unborn child off of a drug he/she had no say so in taking but I'm trying my best to make it as easy for it and me both to get and stay clean forever.  Please I need some help and advice on what to do.  I really don't want to loose my baby but I don't want it being born addicted and prolly taken away from me.

Shirano is right, please get help from the doctor. Coming off that stuff to quick can also kill you. I have seen it happen plus My sister lives with me and she is a er nurse and told me about her seeing it happen all the time. The doctors might not even say anything since your trying to get help. That's one drug you DON'T want to play with. And not judging or anything but when or if you get off of it, please think about your children, they need there momma.. Praying that you and baby are safe

It's better to tell your doctor and have them help you get off of it that way they can defend you with dhs. You are getting clean. Dhs wants the parents to be clean and take their children back. My father in law is a csp worker and they work really hard to make it so the parents are clean so they can have their children back if they take them. As long as you are not putting your kids in harms way they won't take them but you really should tell your doctor rather then have them test and find out.

You should be able to wean yourself off of it. If u are strong and determined to quit u can. Just go with it u and baby will be fine. They do sometimes drug test so u may need to tell the doc that u were taking so they will know if it comes up that u are quitting cause if not they may contact and so forth. Good luck keep ur head high everything will.be ok.

Oh I'm in Canada too, much different here, so I'm not sure about the laws regarding methadone down in the states. I just wanted to share the effects it had on her baby

My cousin used heroin for her entire second pregnancy, her baby didn't get affected by it besides crying all the time, her third baby she took methadone the entire time, she told her doctor if he didn't give her the highest dose allowable she would go back to heroin so he gave her what she wanted. That baby came out tiny with bright blood shot eyes. The whites of her eyes were bright red with blood, it was the freakiest thing I ever seen. Poor babies :( try to get off of it all together, if you follow the plan you get less and less so just do that & hopefully you can be off in a few months.

I know how you feel. I go to the only clinic here that takes medicaid, and they do drug tests every time we turn in a urine sample, and then report you to DSS. I was sooo afraid that my pee at my first appointment would show up my marijuana that I used to smoke regularly through college. But it didn't :) just make sure your OB office doesn't do those crazy drug testing at every visit. And in case some one tries to judge, I DO NOT smoke any longer. I gave it up for my growing baby inside of me. But I know methadone has to be a ton harder to give up. Keep me updated :)

Thanks!  I hope I get some more comments so I can see what a few others think.  I would consult a Dr but like I said earlier I'm really scared if I tell anyone other than my hubby that CPS will get involved.  In the past 2 months 4 of our friends have had CPS called on them and all but 1 don't have their kids.  It makes me literally sick to even think about me loosing my children!!!!!!!  This entire situation is putting a lot of stress on me and I know its not good for me but especially the baby!

I would get it approved by a medical professional first, but it sounds great!
