Yes the flintstones work, i take the complete 1 and 1/2 tablet, 400mcg(micrograms) is all required for folic acid. Sometime i did take an extra dose of folic acid, body will get rid of what it doesnt use. Since i made it to 12 weeks i took one of my prescription prenatal pills yesterday and it made me sick, so i think i will just stick with the flintstones.
my sis has to take the flinstones vitamins bc the prenatal make her really sick. she did it while she was preg with her now 2 1/2 yr old and she is now 15 weeks preg and taking them with this baby too. her doc said it was fine
I take the complete flinstone vitamins, The min requirment for folic is 400 and the flinstone complete has 400mg Sometimes i take 2 if i didnt eat all that well that day. My doctor actually told me it was fine. Im 35 weeks and everything looks good. :) They do have chewable though that are for pregnancy. Its prescription.
I don't know about the flinstone vitamins but when I was pregnant with my son the doctor gave me chewables because I hated to swallow those huge vitamins. You do need folic acid.
if you choose to take Flintstone vitamins, you have to make sure you get an additional prescription for folic acid. You OB can prescribe it for you. Developing babies need extra folic acid, especially in the first trimester, as it helps decrease the chances of neurotube defects such as spina bifida.
