Thanks for the info ladies. I'm going with a natural birth. I already knew I wanted one, I just wanted to know incase I couldn't handle contractions lol
I think it really depends on you and the baby. Like anything during pregnancy there is a possibility of it affecting the baby. I know it can cause problems, I've known of people who have had the babies heart beat drop because of it but that doesn't happen to everyone. Every pregnancy is different
No you didn't at all, hope I didn't offend you either ! It's hard to tell what people mean with just writing isn't it :)
Like I said every women is different I know that the facts are backed up with research... I was just stating t doesn't mean that's exactly what's going to happen!!! I wasn't trying to dis on anyone or be rude... I was just sharing my experience since I didn't have the factual most well known results of an epidural! Sorry if that offended you. Lol. Just trying to make an input on the question!
Also I never said the epidural wasn't fine :) she said she wanted to do a natural birth and I was giving her encouragement to do what she wants.
These 'facts' are backed up by medical research so do have merit to them, I never said everyone who has an epidural will have a slow labour BUT it is a fact that epidural labours have higher rates of other medical intervention
& the activity of babies born epidural vs. nothing is also different for everyone. My son was born while I had an epidural and he starred at me for a good 10 minutes before he got cleaned up. And he was moving like crazy and sucking on his little hands! Again, everyone's different. Women who give birth naturally, props to you... A lot of women can't handle it but there's nothing wrong with that and the epidural is fine
I had an epidural, I was fine and my baby was fine! They say it slows down labor but it actually sped mine up and I know a few others that it helped speed up too. The reason being, if you tense up when you're in labor it won't help the baby move down the birth canal. As soon as I got my epidural I completely relaxed and my little man started working his way down the canal! It's different for everyone but "facts" aren't always facts because of everyone being different
If you compare a baby born naturally to on that was born with the help of an epidural, you will see the difference in how active they are after birth. The one born naturally will be more aware of his surroundings and will be more likely to look at you in your eyes.
It does go to the baby and can be traced in the babies blood after birth. It is however safe and the effects on the baby itself are fairly minimal, if you want a natural birth go for it! You can do it :)
I'm at my doctors office now. He said he would "recommend" some kind of pain medication. He says it doesn't go into my blood or hurt the baby but .. I still kind of want to have a natural birth.
My doctor said it doesn't go to the baby. that it kind of just numbs you but that if you're having a long labor your body will get use to it after awhile and you might start experiencing more pain
They lengthen labor.
They triple the risk of severe perineal tear.
They increase the risk of cesarean section by 2.5 times.
They triple the occurrence of induction with synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin).
They quadruple the chances a baby will be persistently posterior
There can be effects on baby especially if u have an effect from it. Mine gave me a fever as soon as i got it and baby had a low fever also so we had to stay in hospital an extra 2 days. Not scaring u into not getting one. I know i definitely couldnt tolerate the pain so I felt i needed it. Every woman is different though.
http://*****************.org/labor-and-birth/epidural/ read about it and get a basic knowledge of pain meds during labor I'm opting out of pain meds I'm going all natural I know that's not for everyone but read about pain meds and there side effects to decide which is best for you and your little one if any
I wasn't told it'd harm the baby so it should be safe! I absolutely loved it!!
Made my daughters heartbeat drop drastically to where about ten nurses came running in
None, as far as I know. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, it is the only pain drug that doesn't. That's why a lot of women get it over other pain medication. It can actually help the baby because it takes stress off of your body, and relieves stress on the baby.
