Hi my son is 6 and still struggles with this, mainly on his knees and elbows and a few spots on his face.  We went to a dermatolgist and got meds there.  They usually take care of a breakout in about 3 days.  I also switched him to showers instead, seem to help.(i know u cant do that with a little one)  Good luck.

My son's pediatrician prescribed a cream for my son.  Has your friend talked to the doctor?

I went through this with my daughter. Long sleeves, long pants, and less baths...I bought Johnson and Johnson intensive care 24 hour baby lotion. It is super thick, and kind of gives a cooling feeling. Less bathing will help to keep the skin from drying out more also. Also, some kind of sock or stocking on his hands at night, to reduce the friction...I bought little gloves that had teething pieces on the ends, and it was a good distraction!

Best of luck!!!
