Bad luck 3 times in a row?

Ok, so I know this is meant more so for the miscarriage forum but this one gets more traffic. So, I've gone to an OB twice now about my recurrent m/c's. Some say I had 3 some say 4 (long story) all since Sept 2010. Now I've gone for a lot of blood work, and my OB doesn't think we need to go any further. He thinks I need to lose some weight, and minimize my stress. Really?!?!? I explained to him that I weighed more before I got pregnant with my son, and I carried him to term. And he claims I got, "lucky". Grrrrr, not the answers I was hoping for.

Should I just take his advice and try again? Is it really possible to be that unlucky?

To answer your progesterone question, the sooner you are taking it the better..  i dont think you need to start it before hand from what i have read on this boards, seems like most people who have started start it somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks..  They dont rountinely test progesterone levels though unless there is reason to be concerned so make sure when you go for your initial blood work that you demand that the doctor checks that and be vocal about wanting the supplement if yours is low...

I know there was a lady on here who had 3 miscarriages or so really early on and her doctor still did not want to give her progesterone even though it was low... she had to fight for it and her pregnancy has been successful this time.. whether it was the progesterone or not, is unclear but it seems to make a world of difference for some people. and seeing how you have carried to full term before,  its likely to be something along those lines...

You should push to get tested before you get pregnant as well. I have antiphospholipid syndrome and that can cause multiple miscarriages. It is a clotting disorder. I know that if you test for it while you're pregnant you can get a false positive though. I'm sure there's other disorders that will test false positive while you're pregnant as well. Tell him that he's not paying for the blood test you are and that it shouldn't be a big deal to get the referral for the blood test. Also, try your primary care physician. They might do it instead. Certain clotting disorders are life threatening and should not be taken lightly. I know mine is. Good luck!

I hope I can carry to term next time, I'm so scared. So many women out there have their 2WW I feel like I'm going to have a 12WW

I didn't. My progesterone started.dropping at four weeks an I was bleeding heavily. I had already miscarried my first pregnancy so they checked my levels. The prometrium brought my progesterone back up an I carried Lexi to term.

So, we've decided we're going to try again.. this time though, as soon as I become pregnant I'm going to demand some tests be ran ... if he refuses to do them I'll then ask for a referrel to a doctor who wil..

Hi there, sorry for your losses, that's really harsh. There are so many things you could have that could cause multiple miscarriages, low progesterone being one of them. Another is having a Factor V Leiden gene which could cause you to clot when you're not supposed to...I'd hope your dr is checking for that at least. Another is thalassemia, related to blood again. It sounds like your dr is not quite pulling out the big guns. I think if you're limited to him, all you can do is wait for the results from the tests that have been done already. It's up to you if you want to try again during this time (not easy I know) but it would be better for you and your pregnancy/developing baby if you did lose weight like he suggested. You don't want to develop pre-eclampsia or get any other problems down the road...but it's up to you. Best of luck!

Also, don't you have to start progesterone suppliments before you get pregnant for them to work?

I asked him about that too, he said that he doesn't think its progesterone and he doesn't see a need to test it. Its so hard here to get an OB that its darn near impossible to get a second opinion.

He keeps putting off that everything is probbaly fine because my fiance and I have a healthy 2 year old.

Have you ever had your progesterone checked during early pregnancy? Low levels can cause recurrent miscarriages. I had to use supplements during the first trimester with my dd.

He did genetic testing, checked my thyroid, for diebetes, and a bunch of other bloodwork I'm not even going to attempt to spell right now lol.

And that's what I thought too, that overweight caused conceiving issues not problems with sustaining the pregnancy.

I asked him to test for other things and he flat out said, no.

Generally after 3 they tend to start to look at other factors.. alot of overweight people get pregnant and carry to term.. it can be a factor for sure but you seem to be conceiving fine, it is sustaining that is the issue... I could be wrong on this but i thought I would post so you dont feel so alone.. but isnt weight generally the issue in conception not miscarriages???

I would want to seek another opinion to be on the safe side because generally they will do genetic testing, etc after the 3rd miscarriage
