Big baby?

Long story short, it looks like I'm going to have a big baby girl.  I'm currently 30 weeks.  I had an u/s done 2 weeks ago (at 28 weeks) to follow-up on some scar tissue on the uterus, and after measuring my babies approximate weight, they said she's already 3 lbs 11 ozs!!  When we explained that I was born at 8 lbs 6 ozs and my DH was born at 9 lbs 8 ozs, the doctor said that that could be the very reason why our little girl is measuring so large.  I have another u/s in a couple weeks to follow-up on her size, but I guess if it looks like she'll be a 10 lb+ baby, they might have me deliver a week or so earlier and I might have to consider a c-section (my frame and bad back might not allow for a 12 lb baby natural delivery).

Just wondering if anyone has had similar news from their doctors only to find out that the baby's weight leveled out and ended up being average at birth?  This isn't necessarily bad news at all, it just puts a twist in our planning.  =)  And we might want to tell people not to buy us anymore of those itty-bitty newborn-sized outfits until we know our baby girl will fit into them!

I'm kind of hoping that maybe prior to that u/s she just went through a BIG growth spurt, and maybe she'll slow down for the rest of the pregnancy.  I had a co-worker tell me something similar to what alaysha and agomez333 said... that their docs told them "wow, she's going to be a big baby when she's born" and the baby ended up being a "normal" size of 7-8 lbs.  Of couse I had another co-worker tell me that she had a similar situation where the doc knew she was going to have a big baby and she did ... I think close to 10 lbs!  She opted for a c-section right off the bat.  And once it gets closer and we have more details, I might have to consider that too.  I'd really rather have natural delivery, but I'd also hate to go through 12+ hours of labor only to find out I'd need a c-section b/c her head can't pass through the birth canal (like KM604 said about her SIL).

We were able to watch the screen as she was measuring certain body parts (head, belly, leg/arm bones, etc) and it was kind of neat b/c each time she did a measurement, it estimated (based on the size of the body part) how far along you are.  And I knew she must be a big girl before they even told us the weight because when she measured the head and then the belly, it popped up saying I was 33wks and 32wks pregnant... I was only 28wks at the time.  So based on those estimates, I assumed that meant she was going to be tippin' the scales.

Oh well... so I give birth to an WNBA player!  And (luv2bemommy) I actually looked through the clothes we have already and luckily the newborn sizes don't seem to be as small as I thought they were so I might be ok for a week or two.  =)

Thanks for your comments!

They are always messing up on the size of babies since it isn't really accurate. I was told I was going to have a 7+ baby and she only weighted 6lbs.

All I can say is I was told by my Dr. that my middle son was going to be over 9lbs and when he was delivered naturally (on his due date) he was only 7lbs 12 oz. I had a ton of water and he had an extremely large head. So there might still be hope... Good luck!!

ive seen some pretty big babies and its weird but it seems most of them do fit into newborn and sometimes even preemie clothes. My last baby girl was 8.5 but we had a preemie outfit because we didnt know she was that big and it still fit her. (for a short time anyway!) good luck!

I personally don't have a story, but I do regarding my SIL.  When she was I think 32 weeks they told her her baby boy measured 5lbs.  She delivered him 2 days late (so 8 weeks 2 days later) and he was 9 lbs 7 oz and 21 inches long!  After 12 hours of labor they had to do a c-section because she couldn't get him out after being 9 1/2cm dialated for 3 hours!  Sorry for the bad news but don't want to lie to yah!
