I took every class our hospital had and my hubby came too. It was really wonderful. I learned a lot and put my mind at ease for some things. I am glad you are taking a breastfeeding class that really helped me. I breastfeed my son for 18 months and loved it! I would recommend it for everyone. My classes weren't free so you are getting a great deal! I signed up in December for classes in February and March and my son was due April 21st. Some of the classes/days I wanted were already full too!
Don't sign up too late. I wanted to sign up with I was 8 months so that I would have it fresh in my mind but the classes were all full. If you want to do them 6-8 months would probably be the ideal time just make sure you sign up in advance.
yeah all the classes at our hospital are free....I might look into it in a month or so I'm only 4 months now.
My sister gave birth 3 times naturally and never took a birthing class. Things you'd learn at a birthing class are birthing positions, how to time contractions, how to breathe and focus. If it is free, then go for it! I never went to mine becuase it cost like $50.
They were free at my hospital. I went ahead and took them at 5 months but most people in the class were around 7-8 months. But I felt they covered a lot of topics that were beneficial for earlier on in your pregnancy, too, so I was glad I went ahead and took it. Plus we got freebies!! A journal, travel toiletry bag, samples, etc.
just curious since I plan on having the births free of pain medication
I think they are free classes at our hospital and I'm already signed up for the Breastfeeding multiples class.
Never did any classes. But did do the walk though at the Hospital.
I never did these either. I figured I already know how to breathe!! The nurses and my husband helped me through the worst of it wonderfully. If you do choose to do these, you can sign up anytime. That way you can practice your breathing through BH Contractions.
I never took birthing classes. I just had the nurses at the hospital help me. That whole Lamaze breathing thing just doesn't work, in my opinion (maybe for some!). I always felt more out of breath and frantic trying to do Lamaze breathing.
So if you want to save money and not pay for the class, don't bother going. Things you WILL want to attend: child care basics/safety and breastfeeding, maybe DH could go to a Daddy and Babycare class. AND a hospital tour is a must as well (you should do that in another month so you're familiar with where to check in and all that stuff).
