I plan to breast feed also but I have to HP e back to work to so I think I am just going to pump and feed with bottles. You could go that route also :)
I have 3 children and I tried breastfeeding with the first 2 and I had a hard time, and just didn't stick to it. By my third I told myself I was doing it and as much as it hurt and people would say stuff I just had the mind set this is what I am doing! I didn't give him a bottle for the first 6 weeks and if I did the only bottle I found he liked was the mam bottles! It was the best thing I ever did!!! The bond is amazing! If u can make it through the first month you will do great! I ended up breastfeeding till 11 months with him!! Don't let anyone talk you out of it, if its what u wanna do then go for it! My advice would be just try to relax and it should all come natural!! The first few weeks you will feel like all ur doing is breastfeeding but its all worth it!! I am finally expecting again and I will be for sure breastfeeding again!! Also I never took a class but I think it would be a good thing to get he extra support. Good luck!! And congrads!
But will I produce enough for her to have a full stomach? That is my mother's concern that "there is no way she will have a full stomach with breast milk only" lol she made me sad.
Everyone is different my mom and SIL were like milk cows and never had a problem but when I tried with my second child at 6 weeks we realized she was starving and had to be hospitalized and when they put her on formula she was fine. If your not producing enough you will know it, I should have but just thought I wasn't trying hard enough it took me 2 hours to pump 2 oz. of milk. But I don't think that happens often her pediatrician was shocked.
As long as u only breastfeed for the first few weeks to build ur supply, eat healthy and drink lots of water you will make as much as your baby needs!!
imagine back in time before formula was ever created.... i doubt those babies starved and had very full tummies.... its technically your job as a mother to feed your baby that why you have breast! i strictly breast fed my son for a full year with no formula at all hes never had formula a day in his life and hes a very HEALTHY 3 year old right on point and with in the 50 precentile for weight at his age... he went right from breast milk and weaned to cows milk.... dont listen to your mom when she tries to discourage you you milk is what your baby needs and as long as tou feed when shes ready to eat you should have more than enough milk and once your milk really starts to come on after a couple weeks you can start to pump and freeze it the more you feed the more your breast will make.... good luck
Lol...your body should produce as much as your baby needs...if you feel like you need to up your production then pump btwn feedings and your body will think the demand is higher and produce more. I breastfed my daughter until she was about five months old then i started doing 1/2 boob juice and 1/2 formula...then i went to nursing only a couple times a day...she was fine...you can totally do it. pumping is good also cuz you can freeze it and use it later like if hubby wants to do a feeding or something :). i will def nurse this baby too :)
Look at my friends list and add mature_enough. This girl is a breast feeding pro!! I'm sure she could answer any question under the sun LoL. I definately plan on picking her brain after I have my baby :)
Thank you ladies!!!! You brought my confidence in breastfeeding up. I really appreciate it.
Every time you sit down to feed your baby take a large glass of water with you. Obviously drink it in between, but that is a way to ensure you are getting enough. Also, ignore everyone else but your baby's doctor and your own intuition. If the baby seems hungry, feed it. I almost gave up with both of mine for the same reason but my mom told me to stick with it and ignore the pecimism. I also pumped when my kids were done nursing. It was a great way to keep uo my supply and make sure i was completely drained. And when someone would want to feed the baby, i didnt feel bad because they were still getting breastmilk. Plus, by building up my supply and storing it, i was able to stop nursing my son at 9 months. But he had breastmilk until 12 1/2 months. Good luck!
I breastfed all three of my babies no formula and so glad I did. There is also a breastfeeding board you can join on this site for tips and questions too.Good luck.
