Breastfeeding

Ok so me and my fiancé want to breastfeed but he also wants to feed him formula. Will that effect my sons growth in any way? And also will that be good for me or should i breastfeed and pump instead?

I didn't introduce my children to bottles until around 3-4 weeks but still pumped prior to that. I completely understand not introducing the bottle until baby is well established at breastfeeding so maybe they say not to pump before because they don't think you'll have enough milk to nurse and pump. I always have a huge supply so instead of being full and uncomfortable I pump and freeze it for later use. Plus it helps keep my supply up so then I don't have to struggle to produce enough when they have growth spurts.

Agree completely with sarah765 and DominiqueN573. You can confuse a baby with both bottle n breast cz they are very different most ppl who bottle fed babys slowly stop breastfeeding bcz the baby and mom find it easier and if u fully wana commit to breastfeeding you have to keep latching him/her on your breast cz that's what's gana keep ure milk supply going pumping can only get so much eventually your breast will stop making the milk.  Most ppl who say they breastfed for a month or 2 don't really know the full experience you go thru different things as time goes by its very different from month1 to month 6 it gets wayyy easier

There not my obgyns but the lactation doctors at my classes say the baby could get confused by the nipple and not want too nurse so I was told to completely breastfeed no bottles or passys until 4weeks, they said I might be able to introduce at 3 weeks but that depends on how baby is exstablishing breastfeeding

The other problem other then nipple confusion with giving formula is that you will not make as much milk.  The more you nurse the more milk you make.  Which means your supply could drop a lot, or not have a chance to get established.

No breastfeeding will not weaken your immune system, but it will pass on your immunities to baby.  So if you get a cold, tgen baby gets it your breastmilk will be able to give them the antibodies to fight it.

My son is on both, more formula than bm cause I'm not getting much,  but I just pump & he takes it from a bottle. My oldest did the same for 2mths and I never bf my daughter. Yes bm is "better" but many many moms don't bf

My son has combination fed from about 4 days old, cause of my C-Section it hurt so much having him on my tummy for more than 10 mins, and I couldn't prop myself on my side to feed him.    They say it CAN cause nipple confusion, but that's not to say it will, my LO transitions from one to the other with no issues at all x

Pumping can't cause nipple confusion. Giving a bottle too young can cause nipple confusion.

It can cause nipple confusion and if that happens the baby will stop latching on to you're breast BC the nipple on the bottle is easier for them... that's why they suggest you wait to pump.. i know all about it from my mil BC she is a lactation consultant she is always talking to me about breastfeeding lol

Tay did your doctor say why? I've never been told I couldn't pump until a certain time. In the hospital the nurse asked if I wanted to pump and bottle feed to give my nipples a break. I started pumping at two weeks with all 3 of my babies and it never caused an issue.

If you are going to do breast and bottles I recommend pumping and giving breast milk in the bottles because if you start skipping feedings so baby can have a bottle it can cause your milk production to decrease.

When I had my son the hospital gave him formula before I could breastfeed because I had a csection so we fed him both and he did absolutely fine we gave him mostly breast milk but we would give him some bottles of formula then at 3 weeks we switched him completely to formula

Our plan is to strictly breastfeed for a few weeks and then gradually start pumping here and there so he can as well. No formula here unless absolutely necessary.

^^and doctors say the baby could choose it's favorite and not want the other that's why they say one or the other I was told I couldn't pump until 4-6 weeks after baby is born but fiance isn't upset he will bond with her by holding and talking to her

I am planning on breastfeeding and pumping some so my husband can help feed too. We're going to try to not have to use any formula.

Breastfeeding is the best for baby. Studies have shown that tt helps build up it's immune system, helps with their brain development as well as other internal developments and helps protect against issues that could pop up down the road with age such as intestinal issues, and even allergies. I would definitely breastfeed, and just pump that way dad could feed baby too without feeling "left out" but like Dominique said, there are other ways baby and dad could bond.

I would just breastfeed and if he has to feed the baby pump. My fiance also wants me to breastfeed but he isn't concerned about feeding the baby BC he knows breastmilk is best and he wants me and baby too bond. There are plenty of other ways baby and daddy can bond.
