Can caffeine cause a miscarriage or any other kind of defect?

I am the type of person that NEEDS caffeine to get me through the day... I would usually drink 6 or 7 cans of Mountain Dew, a cup or two of coffee and tea to get me through the day... Ever since I have become pregnant, I am reading up on all of this stuff and educating myself of what to do and what not to do, but I have become SO tired that it is literally making me anxious -- I am the type of person that is always on the go and needs something to do and not lay in bed all day. So I know that I can no longer do the whole 6-7 cans of Mt. Dew, cups of coffee and tea deal that I was so used to, but is it okay to have a little caffeine?

16oz to 24oz and I have been fine, as well as baby. 3 cups a day my doc said. If I had stopped cold turkey it would have been rough on me and baby as well. I am a coffee junky : /

I try to limit myself to two cups a day since that's what my doctor said to so. I got headaches at first but now it doesn't bother me. I actually feel like I have more energy now that I don't drink so much caffeine.

My doctor told me I can eat and drink what ever I want. All that you can't eat this and drink that is bull ****. You won't miscarry,  don't worry.

Wow. I drink 2 coffees in the morning and I'll drink like 2 or 3 cans of DP. Or I'll fill up my tumbler cup with DP and drink on that all day.

Caffeine in moderation is fine. You can have a cup of coffee or a soda, just don't over do it :)

yeah youre allowed about 200mg of caffeine a day, including juices, cold / flu medicines and that.   I used to go to about 250mg on a bad day lol, and baby boy was ok :)    I need a glass of diet coke every day otherwise i get a migraine and its a nightmare x

If your still in the begining of your pregnancy the exhaustion may just be a pregnancy symptom.  I know I hardly want to get out of bed in those first few months, and Im not a caffeine drinker at all.  You might find once you get out of the first trimester energy will return without the caffine.  Ive heard a soda or cup of coffee a day, you could probably do 2 but I wouldnt do more then that.

My IVF doctor told me no caffeine at all.  I sneaked a little, but not much.

People do get rebound headaches after stopping caffeine, but they go away after a couple of weeks.  It's better to quit the caffeine and take a baby aspirin every day, than it is to keep drinking it for fear of headaches.  As you slow down the caf, it is OK to taper, to prevent the worst of the headaches.  Cold turkey is when you get them.

One thing I noticed is that if I had wine with dinner I would need coffee the next day.  Since when I was preggers I didn't drink alcohol, I didn't need much caffeine to wake up my system the next day.  You might find the same effect.

I was the same i needed coffee! Decaffinated coffee is the way to go! There is still caffeen in it! 7 decafe = 1 regular. Plus the taste can trick your body into beleiving its actually had the caffine.

i started getting horrible migraines without caffeine so my doctor said to drink it like i normally would. My doctor told me the baby will be fine and I'm 34 weeks and my baby is perfectly healthy

Just like roop said, cut off points lol it's 200mg a day. I was like you before I found out I was pregnant and I tried to go cold turkey but I failed lol just pay attention to the amount of caffeine you're getting. Mtn few is the most caffeinated soda on the market so be careful. I'm a Dr pepper addict and limit myself to one can a day, sometimes I don't even finish it lol

I've been told to keep my caffeine intake to 200mg or below. I definitely still have caffeine and my little boy has been doing fantastic! :-)

I had a miscarriage before this baby due to an excessive amount of caffeine. There are cutoff points. I used to be like that too. I drank a pot of coffee 40oz of red bull and a 5 hour energy to make it through the day. Now I drink like 3 cups of half caf coffee and that's it.
