Cats, litter boxes & pregnancy

I have 3 cats, who are more like my children, inside. My bf has been changing the litterbox so I don't have to bc of the risks involved, but he leaves out every week for work and it has to be changed! I've done a little research and some sites have said it's better not to BUT if you absolutely have to, to wear gloves and be sure to wash my hands. I have face masks that I with use along with cleaning gloves. What do think? Do think it'd be okay for me to change them once in a while or do you think it's better to be safe than sorry? My Dr told me not to, which I know I should listen to the professional, but I can't stand to be in a house with a stinky litter box... Which isn't healthy for me, the baby or the kitties!! I don't know what to do! Just need a little advice!! Anyone else dealing with kitties and litterboxes?

I've had cats my entire life and I still change the cat box. It's very rare to get and if you've had cats a long time your probably already immune. Bit wash your hands really good after just to be safe

I wouldn't. Its not the feces to worry about. Its the litter itself. If you have to then you have to but try to avoid it.

It's ok to do as long as you did it before I'm a vet tech and pregnant women are always scared about this your doctor doesn't want you to change it because they think you cab get what's called toxoplasmosis ... As long a you changed tour litter boxes before your pregnancy you are completely fine and cannot get toxoplasmosis because you have already been exposed before ...if it didn't make u sick before it will still not make u sick ... You still do want to use a facemask and gloves because it is feces your dealing with which can give you e-coli n other things if it gets in your mouth ... Good luck ... But it is FINE to change it

I have heard by other ladies on here that wearing gloves is fine and yes the mask would help too! Just be sure to wash up really good after.. Nobody likes a smelly litter box!
