Charting BBT

So, I decided to finally start charting my BBT as I really want to learn if I'm ovulating.  So, I went and got a BBT thermometer.  My questions are:

1.  Did I just buy a crappy one, or does it always take a minute or more to have the thermometer beep with the temp?
2.  Does ovulation occur directly before the temp spike?  For example, if I take my temp a few days, and each day it is around 97.72, and then the next day, it's 98.72, does that mean ovulation occurred on the last day of my lower temp?

Thanks. :-D

I charted my bbt for one month and got a bfp, so I am no expert, but do know some things.  I too used fertility friend - and I have my last chart posted if you want to use it as a reference (they also have charts of BFP's and such that you can look at).  Please ask if you have any other q's.  The other ladies pretty much answered your 2 that you posted just fine. Good luck!

i obsessively tracked my bbt as well as my cervix, etc.  i highly recommend the book "taking charge of your fertility."  it really helped me understand the process of trying to conceive and how to make it happen faster.

best of luck to you!

Yeah, I get the VIP also.  You have access to a lot more information and if you look in the tool bar to the left you can go into Analysis and it will give you an analysis of your cycle.  It's pretty cool.  Plus they also have forums on that site also.  I only used it once though because I am so used to this one and how this one looks!  LOL!!

Good luck with ttc!!!  I hope you get your BFP soon!

I also chart for NFP reasons.  You did not buy a crappy one.  They do take longer to read your temp.  I have the Walgreens brand and it does take longer.  I think it's just because they are more sensitive.

You are correct about the temp rise.  Once you have a thermal shift for at least 3 days in a row, you can assume that you Oed on the last day of your low temp.  Some women even have a temp dip on the day of ovulation.  Fertility Friend is a great site to chart your temps on.  I use it and I love it.  It's free also.  You just put all of your info. in and it will draw the graph for you.  Please let me know if you have any more questions.  I certainly don't know everything, but I have learned a lot about it over the last several months since I started charting.

Best of luck!!!
