i think the weights vary regardless of centiles from other women's experiences on here. if it helps, my last was on 90th centile and weighed 8lbs 13ozs at birth. he fitted into some newborn sized clothes but not others, i guess dependent on brand. i mostly used 0-3 month clothes, even in the first few weeks.
*My last sentence was about size newborn-sized clothes. I didn't specify!
I'd probably get one pack of the newborn size onesies and that's it for that size.
I'd buy mostly 0-3 months. They're only in newborn clothes, if they wear them, for a couple of weeks or so. And if your baby does end up being on the larger side she'll probably fit in them at the hospital and outgrow them within days of coming home.
Thanks ladies! I think I will be going out this weekend to do some serious baby clothes shopping. I cant beleive im almost 37 weeks and have only gotten a few outfits!! I guess I just kept thinking everyone was going to pass their baby girl clothes along (like they told me). Im going to get a few newborn sizes, but for the most part 0-3 months. I think no matter how big she is those will be big enough for awhile.
Does anyone know how big a baby is if its over the 98th% at birth?? Im hoping to get another scan next week to check growth. Im very curious how off the u/s is at predicting weight:=D
It just depends on the brand. Carters brand usually fits my daughter in the range it says it should. Target brand (circo) is usually a little behind, so even though she is almost 6 months the 3 month onesies still fit her - but the 6 month onesies are just a tad big. I do agree that Gerber runs small. Now my daughter is really long, so the 3-6 month pj's we just bought her fit her body but are too short in the legs, so she is now wearing 6-9 month pj's (I think they are the Circo (Target) brand). I got all different sizes at my baby shower, so I just brought premie, newborn and 3 month onesies to the hospital just in case. For me, it's better to buy bigger because even though they may be a tad too big on the baby, the baby will at least grow into them.
Jeremiah was 8lbs 4oz and 20in. long and some newborn stuff was a little big on him. I had mostly 0-3 months to start and it was big for a little while, but he quickly outgrew everything and by around 2 months was in 3-6 months. It just depends. Buy a variety so you are covered. Like everyone else, some clothing stores run bigger and others smaller. I realized that pretty quickly!
My son was 7lbs 13 oz and was only in Newborn clothes for a few weeks if I remember right.. He wasa little longerthan some too at 21.5 in... Like smjmekg said it varies by brand... Gerber is samll and Carters is big! LOLyour gonna have a big baby if she is early maybe a 7 or 8 pounder...Shhesh..LOl
At birth my kids were 8lbs and 8lbs 5oz and 20.5 inches long and they were both in preemie for the first week and newborn for the next 3 weeks then they were in 0-3 for the next 4 months. They stayed in 3-6 for about 4 or 5 months too.

Well, as I'm sure you know and I have learned since I had my son...clothing sizes range. You can buy an outfit that says newborn and it be the same size as one that's 3-6 months. If you're looking for specific brands I can tell you Carters runs a little big sometimes, and Gerber runs SMALL. My son is 32 inches and ways 24.7 pounds but can still fit in 6-9 months from Carters and needs 18 months for Gerber, he could fit premie outfits up to 4 months old, at birth he was in premie and newborn and weighed 7 pounds 10.7 ounces and was 21 inches long. I'd suggest getting 0-3 months for Gerber and newborn for Carters, and if anything the clothes may be a little big, which is better than being a too small, she'll have some room to grow, and you can always pick up some smaller ones later.
