My daughter is 6 and still suvks her thumb when she sleeps. We tried putting hot sauce on it, that kind of works but we were never consistent with it. We keep meaning to start again, but we just forget. It's best to get them to stop young. Once the habit is broken, it's broken.

My twins stopped on their own, but there are thumb guards you can buy to help brake them of it.

I personally sucked my thumb until I was 13.  My thumb was fine I never got fungus and my nails didn't fall off.  My teeth are also perfectly fine I never had to have braces and I have zero overbite!  I dunno maybe some kids are just gonna have messed up teeth regardless.  For me I was just gonna stop when I wanted to.  And I did eventually.  You can try working with him if it bothers you that bad...

Oh no that sounds like she's had a lot of trouble with her teeth, there not the nicest things to have but she will be thankfull she went through the pain inthe end just like me. Especially as teeth are one of the first things someone looks at when they meet you. It's all worth it in the end :)

My niece is 13 and had to have an expanding plate in her mouth because her teeth were too narrow for braces from having a paci until she was like 5!! Had to turn a key every week in the plate to widen her palate or whatever it's called she was in so much pain she said the braces feel like heaven compared to the plate thing

Ahh you were lucky then ash! I hated having a brace it hurt when they had to tighten it, I didn't eat properly from the pain. But I'm glad I did have a brace because my teeth are better now.

I used to suck my thumb, I didn't stop untill I was 8 it twisted my front teeth so I had to have a brace for 2 years, but my teeth are lovely and straight now. If you can try get him not to suck his thumb.

My oldest never sucked her thumb she had a paci until she was 6 months and started a sippy at 1 year. I used to suck my thumb until I was about 6 until my "uncle" who went by the name of "chainsaw bob" told me his thumb fell off from sucking it and it also made his other two fingers fall off lol I never sucked it again!!

my cousin is 15 and still does it. not just when she sleeps but through out the day and her front teeth are really messed up cuz of it. in my opinion I would try to start breaking him from it while he's still little.

My stepdaughter s u c k s her arm. Has since she got off through pacifier. She also does it when she's sleepy and although we've told her many times to quit doing it, she still does when she thinks we won't notice like when she's laying in bed about to fall asleep. She's 4 and a half  and idk if she well ever grow out of it. I'm not sure what to do either. :/

i was told that if i want to use a pacifier i should remove it when he starts getting his first teeth. I think it would be best to ween him off. Not sure how but maybe ask ur dentist about it.
