I got the sealy premium mattress from babiesrus. It was $99 and has 204 coils.
I got mine for my son and soon to be daughter from jcpenney.com surprisingly they have a pretty descent variety and not to expensive.
I have a Sealy Baby - Posturepedic Crown Jewel Crib and Toddler Bed Mattress. I got it at Walmart for like $120 it has 220 coils and my daughter loves it. I prefer the duel mattress just so I don't have to buy another when she gets a little older! :)
Thanks everyone!!
=)

Sorry! If I read closer I would have seen that!
Like I said I ordered my mattress online. You could do what I did. After we did the bend test we found that no mattresses in our little town were sufficient, they all bent like paper. So, we went online to Babies R Us. I like their website because they list lots of different mattresses, and you can read user reviews from people that bought and used that acutal mattress. That is how we picked ours out, reading the reviews on that site. After I found the one that I wanted, we searched the internet to get the best price.
Sorry I dont have any other suggestions, but that is what we did!!
i'm sitting amazon for you....hehe....i'm pm'ing you with some of the ones i found, and theres quite a few that are less than 150, with free shipping.....
Thanks!
I can't go do a bend test b/c I live on an island. We have NO commercial stores here. The only thing we have on-island is an A&P Grocery, A Stop & Shop grocery, and a Cumberland Farms.. That's It!
It costs $100. just to go over to the mainland for the day! Uggh!
Have you been to the local store and done the 'bend test' that I described above? I found that to be really eye opening. Like you said, it doesnt need to be gold-platted and diamond studded, it just needs to do its job and a lot of that for an infant in is the firmness. Maybe try going to your local stores and try bending the mattresses, that was a great education for me. It can be frustrating buying baby things, or so I am finding out. It seems that often times just because it is for a baby they hike the price up, I hope that you find one you are comfortable with!
Anyone else?
I have been looking at Kolcraft, Sealy, and Serta, and the price range is huge! Anywhere from $59. -$249? I am soo confused and was hoping to buy a good mattress for under a $100.00
I know what the organic means, I just think it's super trendy..
I understand that it definitely has it's advantages, but I just feel like everything is going green and going organic.. I am 30 years old, slept on many non organic mattresses, and I am fine.. =) I REFUSE (and can't afford it anyway!) to spend hundreds of dollars on a crib mattress, in my opinion, that is insane.
I just think a lot of it is marketing ploys.. I think pregnant woman are great targets for marketing ploys, that's all.. Of course we all want what is best, but I personally feel like I can't afford to give my baby the "best of the green organic world.."
And I am ok w. that b/c I am not convinced the benefits of a $250-$500 mattress are that great/worth it. =)
Laura, Organic meants that they are not using any artificial and harmful materials. So in other words, the "organic" mattress is made from natural fibers and it does not have chemicals like formaldehyde wchich is a preservative in the mattress. When anyone breathes chemicals like formaldehyde it can cause some breathing or lung problems. So its not a bad idea to have an organic mattress for the baby. But at the same time, we're all doing pretty well without an organic mattress.
Thanks..
I saw a bunch of "organic" ones for between $350- $500.. No offense to any one, but what is the trend w/ EVERYTHING being organic? My baby will likely not be eating the mattress!
=P
I just bought a 'Simmons Baby Beautyrest Backcare VII'. I had it shipped to my home. The cost of the mattress plus shipping was $180. I bought it online based on reading some awesome reviews.
I had gone to the store and done the 'bend test' on the mattresses they had. If the mattress is firm enough, they say that you will not be able to bend it in half easily, and all of the mattresses at our local store bent very easily. The mattress that we just bought does not bend easily, but it isnt too firm either. I think it is just perfect and I am very pleased.
Good luck with the search!!
I was told by my doc to purchase one that is atleast 150 coil/spring.
Better for the baby.
You can get them decently priced. I know that Walmart carries a Sealy that has 150 for $59
