In california grandparents do have rights. They can go to court to file for visitation rights. It ***** other states dont have that because (granted not all grandparents are good) it is important for kids to have contact with their extended families and some mothers keep their kids away out of spite.
Depends on the state. My boyfriend and his ex wife didnt let their daughter to see her grandparents, bur also her grandparents are very mean and lied to the courts about my boyfriend and his ex wife. They pulled all sorts of stunts saying that its important for a child to see their grandparents bc it will deteriorate the childs mental well being and sorts of other junk. They were granted grandparenting time every weekend and every wednesday. They get more time then the childs own parents. And my boyfriend has full custody.
I think your mother needs to understand that this isn't her child. Maybe if she changes het attitude and how she's treating people, she might. Right now, my stepmom won't be seeing my kid unless its at family events for how shes been treating me during my pregnancy
No they have no rights...
The only way they'd have any rights at all is if they have their baby taken away and the grandparents file for custody OR they give them custody. BUT the grandparents have to be approved by the state to have custody even if they sign over rights to them. Like I have a close family friend who has joint custody with her son inlaw because her daughter signed her rights to her mom but the dad kept his so it's almost like the grandma is the adopted mom and is sharing custody with the biological dad
I live in illinois. I have googled it before, but what i read was wrote weird and made it kind of difficult to understand. What i read was that grandparents dont really have any rights at all unless they can prove that the child being denied visitation to his grandparents is harmful in some way. or thats how i understand it
Theres also this site lol

I forgot about people being a different state from me lol. I just assume everyone is from Ohio.
I found this for you http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/fulltext.asp?DocName=075000050K607
Sometimes when I post websites it comes up with ****** so if it does, I'll send it in a private message for you.
Check your state laws. In Ohio, grandparents do not. But I think other states grandparents can file for visitation. It's not very common though.
thats what i thought, but my mom sounds so positive that she has some kind of legal rights to see the baby
No. They have no legal rights to see the baby unless the parent signs over the right. If you or your sister in law don't feel comfortable leaving your baby with your mom by herself, there is nothing that your mother can do about it. This is YOUR baby not hers.
