You have the right to refuse a catheter, its purpose though isn't to make it easier on the staff, catheters are a serious deal in the hospital and they don't like to do them unless warranted. Most of the time they give them because if you are unable to fully empty your bladder on your own (which is common due to baby's position during labor) it can actually slow the process of delivery. Your bladder can impede baby's transition through the birth canal. You may certainly refuse it however if your bladder is full they may straight cath you just to relieve the pressure.
I'm a Ftm in I'm scared to get 1, I still be scared when I have to get my blood drawn. Ughhh I'm just scared of the whole labor delivery process overall. :(
Request that the girl do it after you get your epidural. That's what I did and I didn't feel it at all.
You can refuse it . Its not medically necessary its just a bigger hassle on the staff if you peeping yourself . But you can refuse anything like that && your decision has to be respected . My mom refused a catheter with all her births && I plan on refusing one as well . Doctors knows this && doesn't have a problem with it .
No I had a epidural and they put one in I made them take it back out and they did
If you have an epidural yes you have to have one because they don't let you out of bed once its administered due to a fall risk, and most women get pretty numb and don't know they need to pee but u shouldn't feel it at all they use lubricant so as not tomake it uncomfortable
I honestly don't remember feeling it... But I'd been pushing for a while and my baby's head was playing peek a boo. I don't remember tearing either but I sure felt it afterward!
If it hurts they did it wrong I had one for the first time it tickled
Omg mine hurt so bad!!! Just thinking about it made me cringe, ughhh it hurt going in and comming out, it even hurt when it was in!!!
If you don't have an epidural yes you can refuse. I had a straight catheter put in for just long enough to drain my bladder whole I was pushing but then taken out again. Do pee as often as you can. That'll help reduce any need for catheterization.
If you do it natural it will hurt. With an epidural they give you a catheter because your body us so numb n you can't move.
I agree. You have to have it for an epidural.
Honestly, I didn't think it hurt. I even had a student nurse with my second child and I hear "opps" as she's putting it in and the mentor nurse had to come and resolve whatever she had done. Still didn't hurt!
if u get the epidural u can't but mines didn't hurt at all
