neiasajean, if your doc graduated  at the bottom of the class would you still want to see him/her?  If an IUP is previously documented and subsequently a fetal heart beat is not detected by CW Doppler, what would you order if you were the doc???  I'll leave the decision in your hands.

That's Odd, I heard his heart beat at 8weeks. I would go back and make sure they check again.

I see so many posts that state they are getting an ultrasound to determine the sex of the baby. That is not even recommended by the AIUM unless it is a twin gestation. Please consider that the primary purpose for a 2nd trimester anatomy survey is not to determine gender. Yes, that is an exciting time, but primarily, it is to determine the fetus has a normal brain, heart, kidneys, bladder, stomach, lip, palate, nasal bone, feet, spine, etc. Let the sonographer rule out congenital birth defects. It is not a a gender ultrasound. It is a fetal anatomy survey that evaluates structure and checks for markers of aneuploidy.

She said not to worry and I have an ultrasound in 6 weeks to determine the sex of the baby. My labs were all normally, blood pressure was normal..if I still don't feel comfortable about it, I will schedule another appointment asap

Honestly if your Dr says things are OK I would trust them. They are professionals for a reason.

My first app was 13 weeks. They didn't hear a heartbeat at that time either. My next app i got an ultrasound and everything was fine. Did you get an ultrasound or just the Doppler thingy?

There must be a medical indication for a scan and you have one. "Confirm fetal viability" .  If it is a fetal demise, it is not something your OB caused but, in my opinion, poor judgement. Hoping for you.

:( I wouldn't be waiting a week. I would go to ER. If u have to just tell them u are cramping and you had and appointment and didn't hear a heart beat. Tell them how far along u are too. The ER won't just give u an ultrasound. Or at least the hospital here wont...

Seems to me your office is not following "standards of care". No heartbeat with non-imaging Doppler would be an indication for ultrasound. At 11 weeks, cardiac activity can EASILY be seen along with heart rate.

I wouldn't go off your uterus size, I had a missed miscarriage, baby passed away without my body noticing it & my uterus was growing normally & matched the week I was in (which was 13) but the baby passed away around week 11. I'm not trying to scare you, but I think you should definitely just go to ER!

That happened to me at 16 weeks. They couldn't find the heart beat so they didn't let me leave till they seen the heart beat through the ultrasound.

You should've heard something. Did you get an ultrasound?  If not, I would go back and demand one or find another doctor/midwife!
