Aw thankyou, that's nice of you. I only know quite a bit about it because of my millions of appointments with both pregnancies haha. And alot of internet research and harrassing doctors, consultants and midwives for advice! I try to help as best as I can cause I was scared when I was diagnosed with GD etc. If you do need any advice on GD I have alot of great support groups saved online, but hopefully all will be fine and i'm sure you'll be given the all clear for it. Best of luck x
I feel the same way about the illnesses. My baby is still my baby regardless of that:) You really know alot, Thanks for all of your advice, I really appreciate it!:)
It's good that you guys get tested anyway. Here as far as i know it's only high risk or health realted. Yeah there's slight chance of miscarriage with some of those tests. I personally chose not too as finding out my child was disabled personally wouldn't change anything for me so Ididn't see the point.. Here things that would put you high risk are a multiple of things (high risk in general, don't know what they are for diabetes).. your weight,- obese or underweight, if you're a heavy smoker and drinker.. certain medical conditions.. blood test results..history of miscarriage, history of pre term labour.. etc etc. Just give them a call and ask :)
I think you're right mommyofaria. That's how my doctors office is, as well
Well I don't have pcos or anything like that....my doctor just does them as a standard thing...I guess each doctor is different
Like amnio testing?! I've heard that is super risky and dangerous! I would never! Goodness, I don't see how anyone could do that. That's ridiculous, in my opinion/: And what would make a woman high risk during pregnancy? Gah, I really need to call my doctor to schedule.an appointment! Haha
They offer certain blood tests and screenings for abnormalities, which aren't 100% accurate and you have the option to refuse them, I personally did. but it's up to every woman. If the results come back abnormal they do further testing and I *think* get fluid from arround the baby via needle to test for illnesses. Some signs of downs syndrome can show on ultrasounds but not always get noticed. I had (UK) a dating scan at 12 weeks, another scan at 20 weeks (checks heart, brain, organs etc) and I have a few more because I'm classed as high risk. Never feel afraid to ask your doctor about future appointments and ultrasounds. x
Oh wow, I didn't know that! I probably just feel like I've missed a lot because I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 5 months Haha. I think around here the GD test is mandatory/: Usually arounf 24 weeks, I think. But I haven't technically had any OB appointments, and only one ultrasound to see how far along I was Lol. I was a little worried because women who I know who have children have told.me they got.ultrasounds around 19 weeks to make sure the baby didn't have like downs syndrome or anything like that, I just figured they would have been able to tell that in my ultrasound if it were present?
If you don't have a high risk pregnancy then they may not scan you regularly. i'm not sure about that as i've been high risk both times so I had 5 last pregnancy.. and have had 2 so far this pregnancy. I don't think everyone does the GD test, I think they reffer you if you have PCOS or other health complications .Could be wrong but in my area I was only tested because of my health issues. YOu could always ask your doctor about it. Good luckxx
Your doctor.will schedule your Gd test...I didn't have mine until Monday at 29+6...... And yes you will get another ultrasound :)
