Is this a best time for induction?

When I went to my 36 week appointment and had my ultrasound, I was told my unborn daughter was almost 8lbs & she was 39 weeks gestation. Iam now 38wks 2days pregnant. With my other 2 pregnancies, I had to be induced with pitocin because my body hasnt been able to dilate past 1cm on its own. I also have a history of having big babies. My doctor wants to strip my membranes at my next appointment, but im not sure if I should go along with it because I never had it done & I heard it isnt guaranteed to start labor. By my baby being big already & my history of not being able to dilate naturally, can I be induced?

My son is measuring ahead 2 weeks as well, and he has been since 9 weeks gestation. They are expecting him to be big. Our first son actually measured a week smaller and only weighed 7 pounds. I'm 4' 10" so me having an 8 to 9 pound baby is scary. My doctor had to use the vacuum to get our first son unstuck from my pelvis bone. Even my doctor said last week I carry a big baby well lol.

No I dont find it rude at all. My thing is, all my kids were 9lbs & they were boys. For this to be a lil girl, I was expecting her to be no more than 8lbs. My doctor just scared me with the last ultrasound because she is growing ahead of schedule.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude but I really don't mean it to be, your comments about wanting to have a normal sized baby made me laugh.. You have nothing to worry about an 8 n 9lb baby is perfectly healthy n normal.. Plus if you think about it they lose some weight after birth so they can use all the help in the weight dept they can get.. Congrats on your first girl..

Yea your right but in my case, the ultrasounds were always right. I guess im in such a rush cause I want to have a normal sized baby & cause im so anxious to meet my 1st daughter. My due date is the 21st so I guess I can hold off.

With my 1st pregnancy, my son was 9lbs 1oz & I had gestational diabetes & high blood pressure. With my 2nd, I was in and out the hospital for unexplained bleeding throughout my whole pregnancy & he was 9lbs 2oz. So far with this pregnancy, only problem I had was weight loss. Now its painful when she moves around. I guess im just scared of having another over due big baby!

No I never had one of those used. My last ultrasounds with my 1st 2 borns were acurate. My 1st born was 9lbs 1oz & my 2nd was 9lbs 2oz. So I have a history of having big babies, but they were boys so it was ok but I thought my daughter would be smaller or maybe a normal size child. Ill ask my doctor about using the foley bulb instead of the membrane sweep. Thanks for the advice : )

Besides, there are so many stories of women being told their child would be a certain size and then the kid is born and is a totally different size (usually smaller).  I don't know if I would let fear of the baby being too big rush me.

My doctor said the same thing, except he wanted to induce at 38 weeks due to the size. He said he didnt want me to have a baby bigger then 8 lbs due to an underlying heart condition. However, I refused because I am still not sure of my dates exactly and I would hate for him to have premie issues. I guess I would feel bad for evacuating him too early lol.

I agree, an 8 lb baby isnt too big. Did you have difficult deliveries or complications from your other kids being too big? If not I wonder why the doctor would be concerned about an 8 pounder, especially if youve had them before.

Did you ever have a foley bulb used? I wasn't dilating with my son and that sure worked to get to 4cm and get things progressing. Sometimes you don't dilate because of the position of the baby's head. The baby can't put enough or the right kind of pressure in the right spot. Just a suggestion.

Weight according to ultrasound isn't 100% accurate, I understand, so your baby may just not be ready yet. And 8lbs isn't bad. My first was 8lbs 9oz and most people I know had babies bigger than 8lbs. My midwife says they don't consider that "big."
