Thank you for the advice. I was also curious about it!
Stay home and labor for as long as possible, my doctors advice was 3-1-1. Contractions 3 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute long for atleast an hour. Unless you experience complications like water breaking. The longer you stay at home the less likely you are to experience interventions at the hospital. Plus your far more comfortable at home and labor will progress faster because you can be more relaxed. Practice breathing everyday so when labor hits you have practice, might sound funny but will be very important. Your breathing is your best way to control the pain. You want to breath in slowly thinking R-E, and out slowly L-A-X. While practicing imagine all of your muscles relaxing. You can also practice making low moaning noises, sounds silly but it honestly helps. Might seem like it would be embaressing, but you don't care at all once labor hits, it will help keep your body relaxed. You can bring a picture or object to concentrate on, and also music if that will help you relax. Also heat helps with the pain, being in the shower or bath can help tremendously with the pain, or a hot water bottle or heat able beanie bag. Also educate yourself about different stretches and positions to get baby into optimum positions during labor. A lot of the rough pain can come from baby getting caught up, keep mobile to help baby make the trip down. Hope this all helps.
