My daughter was delivered via csection at 33 Weeks, she was breech and my water had broken so they decided to go ahead with a csection. It was scary but all turned out well. She was in the hospital NICU for a while with jaundice, troubles with sucking (tube fed), avoid reflex, sleep apnea (stopped breathing in her sleep), and obviously low birth weight. She was unable to breast feed or accept breast mill with her avid reflex and troubles with sucking muscles but in the beginning they told me that breast milk would really help if she was able to take it, they also told me to spend A LOT of time in the hospital talking to her, doing her feedings and changes, and rocking her. They say this because mommies have a connection with a baby that no body else can master and it really helps baby learn and grow. I personally spent every waking moment in the hospital even tho it was over an hour drive each way and I took little clothes and dressed her up and cuddled her and did all the feedings while I was there and everything she needed I did so that I knew how to care for a preme when she came home. I also found it helpful to learn how to insert the tube through her nose for tube feedings, and take an infant CPR class usually offered to you and the people you live with by the hospital. My prayers are with you and I know how hard it is to look at your baby in a hospital crib instead of the crib you have for her at home, but be strong mama she will turn out stronger than ever. My daughter is 3 in march and the apple of my eye, my very best friend, and I wouldn't trade in one minute of the time we have spent together to have had a healthy baby, everything we went through made her the perfect daughter she is today. If you have time please update this with her progress, I will keepyou both in my prayers.

I delivered my youngest son at 31 weeks it was a very scary experience but the doctors and nurses were amazing he spent 6 weeks in the hospital it has been a long journey for him but for the most part he is a happy healthy 17month old baby boy. Congrats on your baby! Praying everything turns out great for both of you

I delivered my son at 36w. Granted, it's not 31w. I have a friend who delivered her daughter at 32w.  After a brief nicu stay she was able to come home and is totally healthy.

My son stayed a week in the nicu due to a collapsed lung, respiratory distress, and jaundice. I pumped every two hours and they gave him my colostrum and eventually my breastmilk. He's nearly five weeks old and is exclusively breastfed.

It was a rough experience for me and I know what you're going through. If you need to talk, feel free to pm me.

I don't but I went inti preterm at 32 weeks. So I did alot of reading. Have you expressed colostrum? Its super amazing if you can and give it to baby the nurses should know about it. Ask about (and Google) kangaroo care. Its skin to skin and has HUGE benefits to pre term babies. Rest up and drink and eat what you can. Congratulations on bubs! Can I ask why you delivered early? You don't have to answer. :)
