Help!

Hey ladies. I just got a call from my doctor saying that I tested positive with my AFP for a neural tube defect. I've never been so scared and panicked in my entire life. Although I know that these test results can be highly false, I can't stop worrying. I'm 24 years old, absolutely no family history of any birth defects, and healthy. I'm currently at 17 weeks and my 3D ultrasound and genetic testing is scheduled in 2 weeks and although I've called the office a ton of times to reschedule for an earlier date, they were unable to do so. Now I have to wait for another 2 weeks until I can have the test and I don't know how I'll manage to get through that time. Anybody else had the same issue and turned out everything was A ok? Thank you everyone.

10% of all of women tested get a positive test, and of this 10% only 10% of those women actually have any sort of birth defect. :)

Thanks, ladies. I'm just reminding myself that everything will be fine but as you ladies know, it's difficult to remain calm and relaxed especially during pregnancy when even small things can trigger your emotions to go crazyx nonetheless if something is health related to your baby. Just trying to get through the next two weeks without a breakdown and hopefully the end result will be ok. Praying, hoping and crossing my fingers for a false positive!

I have never had those tests done because they have so many false results, I wouldn't abort anyway so all it does is stress you out. However, my brother and his fiance had it done with their baby last year and they tested positive for the possibility of neural tube defects, they went thru a lot of testing and a lot of stress and everything was fine. My nephew is a handsome, healthy baby about to turn 1 and has no health problems what so ever. Best bet is to stay calm and relaxed.

Not that but at my 20 week ultrasound they saw a spot on the bowel. They called it bright bowel and told me it could be a sign of cf or a infection. They wanted to watch it and see what happens. I have an ultrasound every two weeks now and it hasn't happened again. The high risk doctor said it was probably nothing to worry about. I'm 31 weeks now. I'm sure everything will be fine with you to so try not to stress to much.

Hey try to relax a little.....
I know how it feel when a dr call you to disturb your peace  with bad news that it could be a false positive
at first your like my baby is okay...
I'm still going to love him any ways
But then you can't stop worrying about it.....
Hey you still have to Waite for the ultrasound

My case is different
My blood work was normal
But my level 2 ultrasound Is showing calcium deposit in my babies  heart.,,,
That's  a sign of DS
but theirs no other indication of DS so I feel okay because I heard that babies with DS have more than one sign.....
I went to the genetic&materna-fetal medicine
And I had another ultrasound 3rd/
2d they did a lot measurement the dr said that he had a good profile
Plus his heart rate is normal :)
I refuse to do the amniocentesis test due to the risk of miscarrying
Plus I don't see what's the purpose of that test
I'm not gonna have an abortion or anything

Hey good luck
& don't stress
