Not sure what to do

So as most of you know this pregnancy hasn't been a walk in the park at all.  I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and having SEVERE swelling in my feet and hands.  my feet are so huge that i have large creases were my foot and leg connect.  It lloks like i had a couple veins pop in one of them b/c there is dark blue/ purple spots.  i'm not sure what to do.  My legs and feet look like they are going to explode and when touching them they are extremly hard.

PS> for those of you who don't know i have gestational diabetes as well and lately my sugar levels have been all over the place.

Help me!

I'm so glad you're okay.  Yeah, my SIL gets the preeclampsia with all of her pregnancies.  She has had 3 so far.  Please be careful and watch your body and symptoms very closely.  She (my SIL) has gone to the doctor for a regular visit before and then sent straight over to L&D to be delivered immediately, so it can be dangerous.  Be careful!!!

Take care and keep us posted!!!!

Please take care of yourself . Has your blood pressure returned to normal now? I would call your doctor and find out if he has seen the report and if it is preclampsia.

well i'm back.  When i got to the doctor yesterday and he checked my blood pressure and saw how large my feet were, he sent me straight to L&D......i was there from 2:30 to alittle after 9.  They did an ultrasound on both of my legs and well as my belly, they wanted to rule out blood clots....which they did thank god.  The baby looked good and is measuring 6lb6oz already.....probably b/c of the gestational diabetes.  they did all sorts of tests including a non stress test.  They were more worried about me then the baby b/c my blood pressure and pulse were pretty high.  I ended up getting contractions that were a few minutes apart and only getting stronger so they gave me a shot to stop them and 2 bags of fluid.  They said that it was to early to deliver.  I didn't get to speak to my real doctor after all the tests, just a bunch of residents and they did mention that i had protein in my urine, but no one said that i for sure have preeclampsia.  But i am kinda assuming i do with everything that has been going on.  I was told to follow up with my regular doctor on the 28th like i have scheduled but if anything worsens, or i get close contractions like that again to make sure i call back ASAP.  So i guess its a waiting game now.....hopefully everything goes well.  I'm not sure this baby wants to stay in here much longer though, i have already had some contractions today but nothing real close or to consistant.

KennedyDP5... If it's preeclampsia and it doesn't get any better within the day they'll deliver her.

Delivery is the ONLY cure for preeclampsia/eclampsia.

They look for Protein in the urine, as well as high blood pressure and swelling. It can cause strokes, heart attacks, and somtimes clots. not good... She's luckily far enough along the baby should be fine.

GoingOnFiveKids~ I think you were right to suggest it. because it's so dangerous. it can get deadly within a matter of hours. I LOVE Special Deliveries and also... Deliver Me. they're my favorite shows, and I watch as much as possible, esp. because i"m high risk.

I hated being the one to tell her that it might be pre eclampsia but I didnt want her to think that her symtoms were no big deal. I learned alot on the TLC and the Discovery channel by watching Special Deliveries and A baby story and it's about not only regular births but also situations just like that our friend. I learned alot about things I was going through with all my pregnancys. I've been watching it for about 8 years. It is very informative and it helps you ask your doctors straight forward questions about these pregnancy issues. My spelling and grammer sucks when i try to rush through my typing --so bear with me whenever you see me post.

I agree, but maybe they just have her there to regulate her blood sugar levels. *keeping fingers crossed* I hope all is well.

I really hope that she is ok. And the baby as well. I pray its not pre eclampsia but rather something less extreme. I had a friend whom had it and its not a good ending to a other wise happy storry.

PLEASE UPDATE AS SOON AS YOU GET "A CHANCE"

God Bless you and baby!

yup, Preeclampsia can cause seizures if it's bad enough, and beings she has gestational diabetes it would make things more hectic. It can cause death in both the mother and baby, as having preeclampsia can even cause strokes in the mother.

If she was bad off they may keep her over night to get things steadied. If her blood sugar has been out of whack as well, they could be trying to stabilize that as well.

at 35 weeks, if the preeclampsia is bad enough, they sometimes induce labor as its the only way to get rid of it.

i wonder what's going on if she hasn't updated yet...  what would they do at the doc if you have pre eclampsia?  is that something she would have to go to the hospital for?
