I NEED Advice ASAP! TJ's Teething and has a 102*F temp.

Ladies TJ is 3 1/2 mo old and 3 or so weeks post op from his Open heart surgery. he's got a bruise about 1 inch aroudn the whole scar even tho the skin is healed up...

And the rest. He's teething, his two top front teeth and I put a bit of oragel on the spot and he immediately stopped screaming HOWEVER he's got a 102*F temp.

We gave him infant tylenol drops and a cool bath. if his temp doesn't go down within an hour and a half we're going to loma Linda (1 hr away but they've got all his records)

What else should I do here? I know that teething can cause a temp but not one this high right?
Thanks!
Cindie

Well, we wound up taking TJ to Loma linda (via ambulance due to the local hosp. not having a ped. unit). His Temp spiked at 103*F.  Tylenol wasn’t bringing it down and it bounced around all day. We were right, that %2 of his scar/incision that hadn’t healed completely yet got infected and they believe with MRSA. However there was no abcess and they’re treating it with the few antibiotics it’ll respond to. YAY!
He’s on oxygen for low Sats (well low 80’s) and they put in a PIC line today! UGH…. I’m staying home this time and spending the day there while hubby is at work. I just pick him back up at night.

Thanks for the advice you had given.

Hope all is well...you haven't posted back so I am assuming you took him to the ER which is what I was going to recommend...keep us updated!

Teething causes a high temperature. My dr was very sure to confirm that for me with my son. His temp would sometimes rise to 103 but after tylenol would drop back down. But since your son has had surgery his body could be having a different reaction to something else, so to be safe, I would go to the doctor or ER.

Teething can cause a temp up to 102...  but do call your doctor since he did have surgery

My daughter always ran temps with their teeth even though the Dr's would never admit it was because of teething...BUT because your son just had a major surgery..I would not take a chance...I would CALL the DR for peace of mind...
