I'm pretty sure if you don't want an IV you don't have to have it. If you'd rather try to stay hydrated on your own with water you don't need it. Unless you're getting an epidural or plan to have pain Medicine injected that way.
The iv and other needles are what I'm most afaird of as well
@rn_jc that's good to know! I haven't had an iv in quite a while so if that ever happens again ill definitely speak to someone in charge.
I agree with lilseamonkey but in no way are we allowed to go digging in your arm anymore. A rule was passed about it everywhere. If they try doing that you tell them to stop and you speak to the charge nurse.
Thank you so much for that :) there's a lot of relief now lol
If you are hydrated enough it's hard to miss the vein unless they are very bad at it. Drink a lot of water so your veins swell and are easy to feel. Usually they put iv in the crook of my arm, like a blood test, because I have a very good vein there. They don't hurt me anymore unless the person is inexperienced and ends up digging around in my arm with the needle to find the vein. It is a bigger needle because it has to basically be laced through your vein, where as a blood test just has to barely poke through the surface of the vein. If you keep hydrated you will be fine. You can ask for numbing cream to be applied before they stick you if you're that scared.
Mine was more annoying than anything. I have never had someone either miss a vein or do anything like that with blood work or ivs
Pinching the top of hand hurts more! Relax, its the fastest small poke, and its done. You wont even feel it for a second and youll never feel it after.
For the most part do they usually get the right spot? I pretty much read to many horror stories on so many nurses miss the vein
It can go in the back of your hand or your arm and if its done right is shouldnt hurt to bad
