My stomach is sensitive to pain medications and unfortunately there's still only certain ones they can give you during delivery. I went in on my own around 3AM, water was broken around 1PM, had a half dose of morphine (the only option I was familiar with that I knew wouldn't cause me to get sick) around 330-4PM and the worst part for me was when I hit about 8/9cm roughly around 1030pm and my body told me time to push but my cervix wasn't fully ready so they kept having me breathe through it and flip side to side. I have a high pain tolerance but ill tell you, even that half dose of meds helped me rest for a good couple hours during the whole ordeal. I hadn't slept for the 4 days before really because of an infection in my tooth that was causing me so much pain especially at night so I was exhausted! I'd prefer to try the pain medication again over an epidural ANY DAY but my dr is an epi pusher so hopefully I don't get pressured into it this time either with an induction.
Depending on the the iv drugs. They can make you kinda fuzzy. I have friends who said they were so loopy they don't even really remember the first few hours of being a mom.
With my first my Dr gave me pains to help nee sleep through the contractions until I was far enough along to get an epidural
Iv pain meds are great for the first few mins they just don't last long at all and you can only get them every few hours
I had a great one! They gave me fentenol before and honestly there's nothing that can mask the pain of contractions but it did help with the epidural! I didn't even feel the needle go in.... Ask for that and see if it helps, chances of you having two problems with the epidural is slim to none
Well I felt the needle grinding on my bones while getting I inserted and it numbed my legs so I felt everything and my legs were numb for about 5 hours after delivery so the nurses kept coming in to poke my legs to see I I could feel them which was makin me freak out.
I'm also interested in knowing I'm afraid of the epidural. If I may ask what was the bad experience of the epidural?
